Editorial reviews

Want to build stronger relationships and connections or find a more compatible partner? Attached examines the science behind love, resulting in a title that is equal parts fascinating, insightful, and life-changing.

Together, psychiatrist and neuroscientist Amir Levine and psychologist Rachel S. F. Heller reveal how an understanding of science — specifically, attachment theory — can help us find and sustain love. The theory focuses on the importance of the early child-parent bond to a person’s social and emotional development. In Attached, you’ll learn how to apply this theory to improve your romantic relationships.

Attached offers psychological insights, quizzes and case studies to guide listeners in understanding their own attachment style and the attachment styles of significant others. This audiobook will leave you equipped to build stronger and more fulfilling connections.

Narrated by Robert Petkoff, Attached enables listeners to become fully immersed and emotionally invested in the material. With more than 100 audiobooks to his credit, Petkoff speaks in a clear and well-paced manner that’s also personable and reassuring.

Publisher's Summary

An insightful look at the science behind love, Attached offers listeners a road map for building stronger, more fulfilling connections.

Is there a science to love? In this groundbreaking audiobook, psychiatrist and neuroscientist Amir Levine and psychologist Rachel S. F. Heller reveal how an understanding of attachment theory – the most advanced relationship science in existence today – can help us find and sustain love.

Pioneered by psychologist John Bowlby in the 1950s, the field of attachment explains that each of us behaves in relationships in one of three distinct ways:

Anxious people are often preoccupied with their relationships and tend to worry about their partner’s ability to love them back.

Avoidant people equate intimacy with a loss of independence and constantly try to minimize closeness.

Secure people feel comfortable with intimacy and are usually warm and loving.

With fascinating psychological insight, quizzes and case studies, Dr Amir Levine and Rachel Heller help you understand the three attachment styles, identify your own and recognize the styles of others so that you can find compatible partners or improve your existing relationship.

Accompanying PDF incomplete

Good book overall, however the PDF document doesn’t include the relationship inventory example answers to put in the provided table. When listening to the book, the narrator states that these examples are provided below the relationship inventory table however audible hasn’t included this. It makes it a lot more difficult to complete the exercise.

Fantastic! Has the potential to change your life!

Once I had begun this book, it was very difficult to stop. So many "a-ha!" moments and clues to self-understanding. Brilliant for your emotional well-being and understanding of self and the workings of current, past and even future partnerships. Attachment Theory is fascinating in any case, but this is presented in a really clear and concise way. The first couple of chapters are a little irritating in that they contain a lot of lists being read out (included with the book purchase), but after that, the book comes into its own. Anyone who enjoyed Dr Susan Johnston's "Hold Me Tight" or "Love Sense" should enjoy this (or else start here and move onto those...). I'm sure I will listen to this again.

Well explained theories, reasons and explanations

Insightful theories backed by reasons that are presented in a way that is easily comprehensible. Useful for analyzing one's self and other romantic interests and determining improvements that can be utilized for more fulfilling relationships. Narration is easy to listen to, however I did find he spoke quite quickly, I often had to rewind and rewind several times to take on board the full concept.

Truer words never spoken!

This book has been so enlightening. I’ve since taken the information learnt and applied them to all of my relationships and the relationships around me just to understand them better. It’s so telling how much more you understand the dynamics around you.

Even if you don’t ‘need’ the knowledge from this book, it’s so interesting to learn anyway. Highly recommend!

Great book with practical support

This is a great resource for anyone wanting to learn how they interact with their partners and possibly in life in general for good and bad. I have learnt some practical lessons and hard truth 's about my own and others attachment style. I hope to move to more of a secure attachment style and seek that in my relationships moving forward. I highly recommend this book.
