Publisher's Summary

In the decades since the initial publication of The Way of the Superior Man, society has changed significantly. Issues of gender and sexuality long confined to secrecy have become part of everyday conversation, and rigid ideas about our societal roles have begun to dissolve.

And yet, perhaps now more than at any time, men of all ages still “tussle with the challenges of women, work, and sexual desire.” In this unabridged audiobook of the classic guide to masculine spirituality, David Deida encourages men and women to lean into the conversation and offer their most valuable assets to the world—their authentic heart and depth of presence.

More relevant than ever, The Way of the Superior Man offers a view of a more conscious and embodied masculinity. “It is time to evolve beyond the macho jerk ideal, all spine and no heart”, writes Deida. “It is also time to evolve beyond the sensitive and caring wimp ideal, all heart and no spine.”

Including a new preface written in celebration of the book’s 20th anniversary, The Way of the Superior Man presents the next generation of with the opportunity to grapple with fear, cultivate trust in the moment, and put forth the best versions of themselves in an ever-changing world.

Read by Cecil Archbold.

Very powerful words and amazing delivery

Full of rich and deep meaning that may take many re-reads to fully grasp. Perfect for any man (masculine) striving for his best and any woman (feminine) seeking to understand. The narrator conveys each word with a steady pace, befitting of the words at play, drawing in the listener to an understanding and appreciation of the authors intentions.

Don’t let the poetic language put u off

There’s a lot of good things in this book. Be a great compliment to The Multi Orgasmic Man and or No More Mr Nice Guy. At times his language is flowery and a bit vague but in many ways he’s trying to communicate something of the essence of masculinity without prescribing things like “kick a football” or “go hunting” so the floweryness leaves the activity selection up to the reader whilst reinforcing the core truth of the matter.
I think for what it is he nailed it, but it’s not everything. Very much worth the read: i now use chapters as guided meditations. They are short and great to meditate on.

A timeless classic helping men be authentic.

A great book with lots of fun concepts and a ritual go back to book. The lessons are well needed in modern society reminding men how to be authentic.

Just too full on

I prefer other authors and books on this subject. Ones with less full on language. This book makes it almost comical.

A woman’s thoughts

Even as a woman “sourced within her feminine” , I have found this book having a profound impact on my life and quote it’s author frequently when talking to both my male and female friends. It’s insights are poignant, immensely perceptive, and rooted in realism while maintaining an uplifting and inspiring tone. I share it’s views with my parents who have been married for over 35 years, to my friends struggling to find confidence in new careers and maintaining or starting new relationships. Between this book and it’s teaching sessions which I have also listened to multiple times as well, I have recommended it’s pages and continue to address its views to a very diverse collection of people.

Too much goodness to verbalize

loved everything. I couldn't stop listening. Helped me understand mechanisms within myself and within my partner. showed me how to straighten a few things out. the book really shed light on the polarization aspect of a relationship and the necessity of union through difference and individualization. highly recommend. make your life better - apply the wisdom in these pages.

a book to reclaim your masculinity!

I love this audible. I was listening to it at a time when my own life was at a junction. if you are a man, the insights you will find in this book are indeed phenomenal. I believe the author must have indeed been enlightened to write a book so intuitive to the masculine cause. I am personally blessed to have come across this book and the audible. I could understand myself better now and the dynamic I have with my wife in our relationship. Give this book or the audible a try. it will surely upgrade your perception of life and you can be a better man and a better human being if you are able to put into practice all or mist of the suggestions given. at the end of the day, it always better to be a superior man!

Superior man's handbook

The "Spiritual Guide" part got me sceptical about the content quality of the book. However, make no mistake this book is essential to (almost) every single man.

I mostly read the science-based books, however, this one has profoundly changed my personal life as well as the relation with my wife.

One word changed everything

Numerous sites/self-help gurus & the like say how awe inspiring, miraculous, life changing a similar book, The Way of Men, is. That it was a must read. Wrong!
The Way of the Superior Man is far SUPERIOR in every way possible. Admittedly, at the very beginning of the book I thought "dear God not again. I have to return yet another load of audible garbage and lose precious hours of my life I could never get back" but by the second chapter that had all changed. I literally could not stop listening until I had heard the entire book. Granted not 100% of the message was what I would consider eye-opening and accurate but a good 85-90% was and I've been around the scene for a few minutes.
Definitely recommend this book to all men out there.

unashamed, ancient wisdom of yin/yang energies

In a world where much of pop culture is trying to homogenize men and women, and we are reaching record levels of depression, dissatisfaction in life, and relationships, this book is filled with powerful knowledge that can change your life for the better. It is unashamedly open about the yin/yang polarity of the universe, and the driving forces of divine masculine and feminine.
It uses wisdom of tantra, yoga, and other ancient sources of wisdom that celebrate the essence of masculinity and femininity.
If you think people need to stop using age old expressions like "man up", then your feelings will probably get hurt by this book. If you want to learn the true essence of that expression, how to become a fully realized masculine person, and become powerfully attractive to the feminine, then buy this book.
If you want to understand why many men become angry, frustrated, and continue to be temperamental little boys in mens bodies, then read this book.
The masculine essence must not be repressed, punished, or in any way attempt to be conditioned out of us. Those with a masculine essence cannot be nurtured and fulfilled the way a feminine essence is. That only leads to countless imbalances and unhappiness for everyone. It must be understood, properly directed, and cultivated. This book has changed my life.

Poor David Deida!

I was first recommended this book by the most toxic, problematic women I’ve ever encountered face to face (she came into my life via work) as you can imagine, I was reluctant to read anything recommended by such an individual! However, fast forward a number of years to today and I noticed it was available on Audible. With a number of credits freshly credited to my account and safe in the knowledge I could return the book should it piece disappointing I decided to pull the trigger and see what it was all about, although I’m very much regretting that decision!

It would appear to me that David Deida is totally unaware of the many, many mental health issues that affect humans and in particular women.

I can’t help but think David Deida has only ever dated or come across women with notable mental problems for the type of women he consistently refers to are undoubtedly troubled!
Were he to have met some normal, non problematic women I’m sure this book would never have been written in the manner in which it was.

I got to chapter 15 where I felt like waving the white flag, surrendering and returning to normality by getting a swift refund.
In this chapter, he thinks it normal that a women would complain about her husband forgetting the milk after he’d just made 1 million and changing their life’s considerably, to a degree never before experienced! He then proceeds to rant about why a women would act in such a manner as if it was the behaviour of a normal, well functioning human, before going on to advise how a ‘superior man’ should respond, it’s ridiculous and would be laughable were it not for the frightening thought that some men are trapped in such a toxic relationship bubble and it’s further frightening that some men may believe his advice and accept such a dysfunctional, toxic, negative being in their life and all the unhappiness that will follow.

For anyone who is familiar with the traits and behaviours of the likes of depression, bi-polar, borderline personality, sociopaths, psychopaths, narcissists etc you will quickly realise these are the type of behaviour the author has been exposed to and thinks are perfectly normal. For any true ‘superior man’ you will see these behaviours and people for what they truly are and not try to appease and accommodate them, you will instead keep your standards high, reject & remove such toxicity from your life and only seek out and accept a partner of equal standing whom you can trust, love, laugh and build something great with.

Do what truly feels right and makes you happy, without any sense of doubt & hesitation. When it’s right it’s right and you will know so. Such times certainly won’t see the prescribe of any of the toxic, dysfunctional behaviours and scenarios described in this book!

Best Wishes to one and all. :)

Waste of time

Felt like I was scammed, honestly was like listening to a 1990s sexual love guru.

Most talked about spirituality with no evidence and poor examples to back up what he was saying, throw in some stereotyping of women and of races.

It’s the worst book I have listened to and felt like I was scammed.

A recipe for co dependency

I didn’t finish this book. The ideas in it are inexplicable and baffling in many ways. As a previous reviewer mentioned his idea that someone could earn $1m in a day and it be normal for the partner to complain about them forgetting milk is ridiculous. The point I think is for the man to see that the important thing is for him to control his own emotions and not need external praise. So see that and do not buy this book.

a couple of useful bits of information

there were a couple of useful bits of information but it also discusses that if you feel offended by criticism you are acting like a woman which is quite offensive to women. Also a poor description of someone who can't hope with criticism so I stopped listening to the book at this point after it being relatively mediocre to this point.

This audio book is great book for wise words of wisdom. But you still need to consider the fact that the opposite sex may have different preferences to what's suggested.

Extremely challenging at timea but incredibly rewarding and insightful book

I thought this book was targeted at the ‘too arrogant to care’, ‘too tough’, ‘alpha-male’ reader. Clearly after listening to it I was so wring. It’s really for anyone to be honest - written to men, but probably equally as useful to women. There’s some real gold in this book without doubt. As ever though, without implementation, its totally useless. Thanks to David Deida
