For decades we've been told that positive thinking is the key to a happy, rich life. "F*ck positivity," Mark Manson says. "Let's be honest, shit is f*cked, and we have to live with it." In his wildly popular Internet blog, Manson doesn't sugarcoat or equivocate. He tells it like it is - a dose of raw, refreshing, honest truth that is sorely lacking today. The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck is his antidote to the coddling, let's-all-feel-good mind-set that has infected modern society and spoiled a generation, rewarding them with gold medals just for showing up.

LIFE CHANGING!
- By Tania Stott on 26-04-2021
Publisher's Summary
If you learn to let go, your life will take off.
When you let go, you live intuitively. Everything flows, because you are no longer attached to things being a certain way, to being a certain person or always being right. What a relief. The irony is that when you feel stuck in any area of your life - career, relationships, purpose, health or money - letting go can seem very hard. You cling on for dear life just at the moment you need to take the leap.
In The Power of Letting Go, John Purkiss explains why we should let go and how we can do it, using proven techniques to make things happen.
The stages of letting go:
- Be present and enjoy each moment.
- Let go of the thoughts that keep you stuck.
- Let go of the pain that runs your life.
- Surrender and tune in to something far more intelligent than your brain.

Great Guide
I thought this made a great guide but it won't be my only tool I'll use to help let things go. I thought the personal stories were a nice touch but overall a little too much for me. I did feel I could relate to most of what was being said. I'd really like to give the rating a 3.5. I have listened to the audible a few times now and will most likely listen to it again.

Teaches you to meditate in different scenarios but full of pseudoscience and anecdotal evidence
I took the book with a grain of salt, that grain being how to practice meditation and mindfulness throughout your day. However, the book relies heavily on anecdotal evidence, pseudoscience, and unsubstantiated claims, such as when the author is magically able to detect illnesses in other people by just looking at them. There is also an implicit claim that if others do harm unto you, it’s not their or anyone’s fault, but thinking that makes it so—clearly a view of someone who has lived a privileged life.

Too Theoretical and Repetitive
“Letting Go” is not what I expected it to mean, and I’m disappointed. It’s basically telling you to be “present” and mediate. To not think and act as much. I don’t understand how any of that will result in what you want. Seems like a ship without a rudder, carefree of where it goes and whether it never ends up anywhere. I would not recommend this book for people who are afraid of making a choice to leave/change something they do not think is satisfying/fulfilling. This book is more about integration, shadow work, stoicism, and a lil law of attraction, but written in a confusing way. Some things were said the same way so many times I thought the audio reverted to a previous chapter. There’s a lot of somewhat trivial anecdotes and personal experiences that aren’t relevant to me or to the point. There’s a lot of focus on why you should let go, but, hello, I bought the book, duh, I know I want to let go so I can move forward, so why spend 50% of the book on selling the why it’s important to let go? Also, the old school way if voice over makes it difficult to follow, comprehend. It’s not conversational; the speed is slow, with unnatural pauses and raise of voice. I learn more faster from Youtube where people are presenting the book’s points in 10 minutes because they talk normal.

Truely took me on a journey. I am so grateful for this book. sometimes you have to find the information when you're ready to hear it, and it was apparently the perfect time. In summary: who told you to think what you are thinking? Why do you still believe that?

Thich nacht Hahn is better
Anything that annoys you is a projection of something about yourself that you put onto others. No. This is a very overly simplistic view.
It felt to me like the author had a very basic experience of intuition, psychology and perspectives and then found mindfulness and learned some psychology. Then wrote this book.
People and situations are simply not this black and white. I also found the voiceover beyond irritating (but I guess this is just my own projections).
If you read a Dalai Llama book or Thich Nacht Hahn book, or even listen to Alan Watts speak, you will be able to identify that by comparison the author is more theoretical than richly experienced.
Sorry if this review lacks compassion, but when a book is presented as an instruction manual for living, and is not free, I believe that it is important for reviews to be honest. However, the book hopefully won’t cause anyone any harm and many other reviewers seem to love it so each to their own.

Highly Recommended Book for Life
This is an outstanding book making the subject of transformation and ‘letting go’ accessible for everyone. Inner work really is the ticket to creating huge change in your life and this book contains powerful techniques to help you to do that. I enjoyed the narrators voice too, he speaks easily and fluidly.
A great test of whether I really enjoyed an audible book is firstly whether I actually finish it (many half read books in my library). Secondly, if I love it I will then buy the hard copy to re-read and refer back to. I’m just off to do that now.
Read it and do the work 🙏🏻

Pseudo Psychological Twaddle
What a load of rubbish. While I am a fan of meditation, mindfulness and gratitude, these are already in my practise, expecting magical things to happen when you follow the advice in the book is frankly ludicrous. The anecdotal evidence of John Purkiss and his privileged friends does nothing to change my point of view. Whilst I have an open mind, I’m not prepared to spend 20 minutes a day re-living rape, the attempted suicide of my mother or any other significantly awful memories that I have. If the worst thing that happened to you was to be laughed at, at school, have at it. But if you have real issues, look elsewhere.
I really felt for Mark Meadows who had to read out this nonsense, which he does excellently.
Hopefully I can get a refund.

Potential to be life-changing
I say ‘potential’ because for something to ‘be’ life changing, you have to make the choice to allow it to be so. This book has that potential. It allows you seemingly simple tools to restructure your mind, your choices, and your future. However when putting into practice, it is not so simple. You have to really want to let go of everything you’ve learned to hold onto over your lifetime. The stories in this book provide food for thought and insightful moments that many can resonate with. It’s very rare for me to re-listen to a book nowadays, but this is one that I will drilled into my mind, because the message is so profound. Truly, life-changing.

Perfect
Amazing book. It gives the law of attraction an ekstra explanation to understand it better or at all. And I love how each thing is explained several times.

Excellent audio book with great information
I found this audio book excellent on all levels.
It’s easy to follow, with excellent well laid out information.
The narrator was also very good and easy to listen too, I usually prefer books narrated by the author but in this instance it was read perfectly with great inference and rhythm he was reading from the heart so sounded perfect.
I found the text ideal for me not too in-depth or overly complicated although still very well explained.
Thank you

Do the work & surrender it to the ether
25 years I’ve been in the acting industry. The first 10 years I absolutely flew and all my dreams came true. The a huge block because I started trying too hard and pushing and for the last 15 years I’ve suffered tremendously in utter loneliness and darkness. Now thanks to this book. I surrender to the innocence and naivety of the 1st 10 years where I just took chances as and when they arrived. I’ve created so much wonderful work in the last 15 years now it’s time to surrender it and just allow it to happen and enjoy working by intuition. Great book that has given me a new freedom. Thanks John
