Story
It’s 2006, and terror scaremongering in the media has rattled the residents of sleepy, suburban Dunlop Crescent. When a Maori family moves into number 14, the local cranks assume they are Middle Eastern terrorists hell-bent on destroying the Australian way of life. Rumour has it that they plan to turn their house to face Mecca. This sets off an extraordinary chain of events that embroils the entire neighbourhood as well as cynical media figures, bumbling antiterrorist police and a gang of white supremacists with a radical plan to wake up the country and ‘preserve Australian values’.

Story
Dolly Jamieson is not homeless, she's merely between permanent abodes. The 78-year-old spends her days keeping warm at the local library, where she enjoys sparring with the officious head librarian and helping herself to the free morning tea. It's not so bad, really. But it's certainly a far cry from the 1960s, when this humble girl from Geelong became an international star of the stage. As the acclaimed lead in the Broadway production of The Rose of France, all Dolly's dreams had come true. So how, in her old age, did she end up here?

Publisher's Summary
What did she see?
It's been 10 long months since Anna Fox last left her home. Ten months during which she has haunted the rooms of her old New York house like a ghost, lost in her memories, too terrified to step outside.
Anna's lifeline to the real world is her window, where she sits day after day, watching her neighbours. When the Russells move in, Anna is instantly drawn to them. A picture-perfect family of three, they are an echo of the life that was once hers.
But one evening, a frenzied scream rips across the silence, and Anna witnesses something no one was supposed to see. Now she must do everything she can to uncover the truth about what really happened. But even if she does, will anyone believe her? And can she even trust herself?

not bad
Not bad for a first time author. it went on a bit too long in parts and I picked the "twists" early on. An interesting protagonist though. perhaps i didnt appreciate the film analogies due to not having an interest in those films. well read.

I found this book hard to engage with and I would always have to go back because I'd stop listening. Felt it was a bit too drawn out but the ending was good.

Really good but
I thought the plot was good, the twists and turns were excellent, certainly kept you guessing right up till the last few chapters. The only thing I can fault is the thoughts in Anna’s head sometimes waffles on abit. I got abit bored listening to how her ears raged, her heart beats etc, just get to the good bit ffs. Other than that, great, loved it

Brilliant
What started as a low simmer, escalated to a slow burn before finishing with an explosion! It was like reading a black and white Hitchcock movie - it was brilliant! Loved the narration - at times annoying like a slow moving train, at others, rich and velvety and vivid but always compelling.

Great Book
Really enjoyed the storyline. Very detailed which easily enabled me to visualize the setting.
Author was very sympathetic to mental health. What was unsaid kept the reader guessing as the story unfolded allowing the reader to become involved in detecting the storyline and ending.
Narrator was excellent. Great voice and very easy to listen to. Narrator very easily switched between characters making it easy to discern who the character was.
If you like a good mystery with a bit of hitchcokian thrown in (is that a word?), then this book is for you. Highly recommend

I actually stopped listening early on. I struggled to find the point. I went back to it a few months later and persevered. I can't say I was completely engrossed in the story. It was OK.
