My only problem with this series is that I listen to them quicker than they are produced and they always leave me wanting more.

    "Best in class"

First R. C Bray is the number one narrator of this genre. Beaten by none.
Next this is the best of it's kind. Spanning the world, artfully jumping between the players and their battles this is zombie military fiction at its pinnacle. Listen to this listen to the series and then hang out for the next one to be released.

    "Awesome book but..."

Another awesome book in the series but I really wish the author would advance the storyline more and stop jumping all over the place tell the story from multiple points of view and just stick to telling it from team alpha's point of view, they are the only reason I keep buying the books to see what they face next.

"Does absolutely nothing to advance the story."

This entire book could have been easily condensed and added to the next book in the series. On its own it does nothing at all to advance the story of the Arisen series. Everything is more or less as it was at the end of the book as it was at the start. Considering how book 8.5 ended this is especially disappointing.
R.C. does an amazing job as usual.

"Another great book in the series"

Another great book in the series... exciting, suspenseful... you never know what happens yet, you just know that whatever happens... it's going to suck worse for the characters than the last 10 minutes. My one and only qualm with the book... I have to wait until the next one is released... grrr!

"No advance to the story line?"

Alpha team is tasked with going back to Camp Lemonnier and if necessary deeper into the territory to find “Patient Zero” for the research scientist. I recall from the previous book “Nemesis” that the Al-Shabab leader had the true Patient Zero zombie chained to a wall in The Stronghold and kept it close as a source of his power. I was almost surprised that no one in this book suggested they go back to The Stronghold to retrieve that Patient Zero and get some payback while they were at it. The turmoil between Handon and Hano is constantly rearing its head throughout the story. I don’t see how those guys can operate with that animosity between them, but somehow they seem to manage. The fragile status of London is another sub-plot switched to occasionally to keep that situation in the loop. The mission to retrieve Patient Zero, deliver it to the scientist on the JFK, and get scientist & patient to London is laid out at the prologue and unfulfilled at the epilogue. So, has there been no advance to the story line as some reviewers have opined? Hano thought the entire mission was a waste of time since they are now talking about returning to Hargeisa for Patient Zero. Who are we to argue?

What would have made Cataclysm better?

    combine books.

Has Cataclysm turned you off from other books in this genre?

    no

What about R. C. Bray’s performance did you like?

    Everthing

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Disappointment. Same old story as all the others in this title. Start a new mission, mission gets in trouble, mission gets out of trouble, hints of more trouble in next book.

    Any additional comments?

Need to combine books for one price. I'm done paying by the book.

    "A Mid-Series Scene Setter"

I’m sorry Michael Fuchs but it’s now official, you need to be locked away and never let out again. No more wasting time on recreation and spending time with family and friends you need to be working 24/7 on new books for this series. R C Bray we can let out on license in between recording sessions but only if he promises not to the leave the country. This series is a REAL guilty pleasure and the fact that the adrenalin has kept flowing for so many books and I still look forwards to each new one coming out tells me all I need to know about it. So sorry Michael / RC you need to accept responsibility for creating my addiction!

That said, in truth this one isn’t quite the same high-octane, non-stop action that most of the books in the series have managed to deliver. It does take a while to get going, relatively speaking, and when the action does start it occasionally feels a bit choppy as it switches from London to Africa with occasional visits to Russia thrown in. It was still good though and I certainly get the feeling that the next book will be a real blast given the scenes that have been set.

It’s worth noting that the last half hour of the book is in fact a taster of the next in the series. I didn’t listen to it this time, I suspect that the pace of that one will be frenetic and I don’t want to get into the first half hour just to have to wait a few months to get my next fix.

So, although Cataclysm is not the very best in the series it is still damn good and clearly sets things up to follow in epic fashion. If you’ve not read the series then much better to start at the beginning and believe me it’s a hell of a ride.

Honestly down load these books. I have been absolutely enthralled from start to finish. R C Bray as narrator is excellent. The author's & R C Bray make you believe each character a different personality depth that leads you to believe each one actually existed. 5 stars are never enough. Enjoy!

    "Hilariously bad."

These books have been getting worse and worse. Now it's gone from guilty pleasure to utter non-sense. I could stomach the non-stop crises when they made a little sense. But in this book he's gone above and beyond stupid and ridiculous. It's comical really. Characters who have just had their professionalism described at length act like mental patients. Add to that whale shark attacks - I kid you not - and two absurdly improbable events colliding into one laugh-out-loud impossible crapfest, and you have the makings of a book that is getting returned right now.

Would you consider the audio edition of Cataclysm to be better than the print version?

    Mega yes!

What was one of the most memorable moments of Cataclysm?

I love when the team start dropping movie lines for banter. Very cool and slick dialogue, that's in character for all the team members.

What about R. C. Bray’s performance did you like?

The guy delivers the characters as full blown movie stars. I love his voice for this, and other genre`s. I thought he won the Zombie narrator battle hands down. Gunny Thick would personally cranial penetrate the Oedipus complex-ed excrement out of anyone that differs..

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

    All of it.

"Such bad luck for them, sigh"

I really have had a blast with these, but there are some really hit and miss sections of just pure bad luck. These guys are so highly trained, yet they do make the really craziest mistakes. I can forgive it because they're Zombie and fantasy books, with a whole lot of real life, character situations and days without sleep. But they're still pretty daft mistakes, that I really do hope highly trained people wouldn't make.

However, this is one of the most entertaining series I have had the pleasure of listening to, and the action and character development, even if sometimes things seem odd, is brilliantly done. Yes, I am now a big fan, and I don't mind admitting it. I just went to look up the writers and narrator on facebook....

Thanks for being so awesome. (PS I saw book 11 is on the cards for audio, squee)
