Publisher's Summary

For dinosaurs, it was a big rock. For humans: Coronal Mass Ejection (CME).

When the Earth is hit by the greatest CME in recorded history (several times larger than the Carrington Event of 1859), the combined societies of the planet's most developed nations struggle to adapt to a life thrust back into the Dark Ages.

In the United States, the military scrambles to speed the nation's recovery on multiple fronts including putting down riots, establishing relief camps, delivering medical aid, and bringing communication and travel back on line.

Just as a real foothold is established in retaking the skies (utilizing existing commercial aircraft supplemented by military resources and ground control systems), a mysterious virus takes hold of the population, spreading globally over the very flight routes that the survivors fought so hard to rebuild. The communicability and mortality rates are devastating, leaving only small pockets of survivors scattered throughout the countryside.

Commune: Book One is the story of one small group of survivors who must adapt to a primitive, hostile world or die. As they learn the rules of this new era, they must decide how far they're willing to go to continue living, continually asking themselves the same question daily: is survival worth the loss of humanity?

Based on the reviews I expected more

Going by the reviews I expected this to be a really good listen but I was quite dissapointed. The story was thin and predictable and the mind-numbing detail on every single weapon really didn't do it for me - yaawwwn

Pretty standard post incident but very character led

First off I love RC Brays work. But in this you would swear you were listening to a cast perform the piece. It’s some of his best work. The story is pretty standard post apocalyptic incident faire but very character driven and very empathetic in the way it’s written. Quite awesome. I finished the first and bought the second. Didn’t even wait for a credit and that’s saying something:)

RC Bray, brilliant as always, story a little sappy

The author is obviously a gun nut, and his characters are a little shallow, but the overall delivery was worth a listen. RC Bray is by far my favourite narrator, and found him to be amazing again in this book.

Sub average survival genre

Sorry folks not my cup of tea. Really thought there would be more of “how” things fall apart after a given cataclysm and more insight into society dynamics. These things occupied minimal coverage and only served as the backdrop for a very average team-survival story replete with cultural stereotypes . Substitute zombies with unfriendly humans and you’re there.

Story needed to develop

I kept waiting for this ok story to get better. I’m hoping that book two will be an improvement.

Great Book

I knew nothing about this author, but I'm glad I gave this book a try. It's what a good apocalypse book should be.

Even if you don’t like apocalyptic novels - this is for you!

I usually detest apocalyptic based novels, but Joshua has made me a convert.

I was pleasantly surprised and impressed as to how much thought and detail he has put into Commune. The characters are well thought out and their development makes perfect sense. I will definitely be getting the next in the series.

R C Bray as usual is amazing!

Don’t be put off by the negative reviews

I really enjoyed this book. Yes there is a bizarre focus on gun details & even one three minute speech on gun maths (eek), but just skip past these bits if this doesn’t float your boat. The rest of this book is great.
