  • Summary

  • We know that gut health is important. What and how you eat affects your energy levels, your brain function, how you feel, your work performance, your skin, your weight, how well you age and your long-term health. There isn’t much else in life under your control that has that kind of awesome power and all of these effects start with what happens in the gut.

At the same time, never before have we been so confused over what we should eat!

Dr Joanna McMillan cuts through the nonsense, bust the myths and misconceptions and translates the extraordinary emerging science of the gut and the gut-brain link, that explains just how your food choices impact your health and happiness. Each episode explains the everyday science, but also tells you exactly what you should be eating to improve your gut health.

Dr Joanna McMillan is one of Australia's favourite and most trusted health and wellbeing experts. She is a PhD qualified nutrition scientist and an accredited practising dietitian and has the natural ability to translate complex science into practical actions that will transform theory into achievement.

Sensible and informative

Dr Joanna McMillan, gives us the low down on what's going on in our digestive system, with a Scottish accent, humour, and well-informed science.

As she acknowledges, a lot of the science is in its early stages, but it's only the details that scientists are quibbling about.
We have solid evidence that wholefood, nutritionally dense diets are a good thing, and a lot of the fine tuning of what, when and how much we eat for wellness, is going to be personal to us.

Dr McMillan gives us some of the reasoning behind the food choices we can make, some practical starter notes for us to incorporate into our meal (and snack) planning. She provides some insight into how to feed ourselves, and our gut microbes, and how looking after our digestive system looks after our mental and physical health.

I think that, as a sufferer of chronic bowel pain, the thing that I appreciate most in this production, is the compassionate acknowledgement that there is no universal recommendation, not all strategies are going to work for all people, and that there is hope out there.

It's always a little tricky when you are seeking help, to find the answer is "uhm, it's complicated.." but anyone who tells you otherwise is just trying to sell you something... possibly essential oils or cider vinegar.

Fascinating!

I was drawn in by the title and I have purchased books by the author. This is really informative resource to understand the gut. More and more research shows how important gut health is to your overall health. This book is a super interesting listen. And her voice is amazing - could listen to her all day! Would recommend to anyone, whether you think you need to hear it or not. You wont regret it.

Excellent and useful information!

The book covers the role of fibers, legumes, and grains in detail.
I particularly liked the balanced approach and explanations about lectins and other foods often maligned out of ignorance.

Extremely informative and very well presented

I have learnt so much, thank you Dr McMillan!

It was really interesting and I've listened to all the eposides in less than a week.
The narration was done very well and I love the author/narrator's voice and accent. I even laughed out loud a couple of times as the narrator is really humourous and totally draws you in. The information is all built on scientific information by a professional, and explains why some of the fads might be bad for you or which ones is actually good.
It was interesting to get to know how my body works from the moment I start a meal and all the processes involved and how it affects my whole body.
I will try and look after my microbiome better :)

Good for someone new to this healthy eating. Probably first stage of understanding your health and direction you want to go. Too general and doesn’t have specific plans

Packed with essential, wholesome information

I really needed this. There is so much misleading information online these days surrounding diet and nutrition, including what can help if you suffer from a chronic gut problem. This covers so much all in one go to set the record straight.

Served in neat half-hour-ish episode portions, and narrated in a friendly and upbeat tone, I consumed this almost all in one sitting. Highly enjoyable and packed with wholesome information :)

Life changing really....

There is so much noise today about diet, and Dr Joanna absolutely smashes this one out the ball park! This is the only tool you will need to build your own foundations for a healthy lifestyle to last you a lifetime. And she has a wee Scottish accent which makes for a lovely listening experience.
Enjoy!!
