  • S2 E2: Caitriona Jennings
    Jun 28 2023

Caitriona Jennings joins me on the podcast this week. Caitriona first represented Ireland as a juvenile tri-athlete and later learned she had a talent for long-distance running. Her competitive nature held true when she qualified for the 2012 London Olympics representing Ireland in the marathon. No stranger to adversity, Caitriona is honest in telling me that she did not get the result she aimed for at the Olympics due to injury and shares the mental training she uses to remain resilient in times like this. She describes the recent years as pinnacle points in her athletic career placing 3rd in the World 100km and 1st in the European 50km. She continues to hold the national record in Ireland for both the 50km and 100km races. Naturally, she is also a running coach and motivational speaker, I mean who would not want to hear from one of the best ultra runners in the world? Caitríona humbly balances her athletic career with a successful professional career, specializing in Law and Accounting. She is a veteran of long-distance running and it was lovely to sit down and chat with her about all things running, routine & mindset.

Hello and welcome back to The Move Mo Chara Podcast. This is Season 2, I am still your host Carly McGrath and I am very happy to bring another season of the podcast your way.

Brenda Bannon joins me on the podcast this week. Brenda is a radiographer by trade and is also a qualified personal trainer and nutrition coach. She is an extremely passionate and dedicated team player in the world of Gaelic Football. She has worn the green and white of Fermanagh with pride for years and has been a part of winning teams in all aspects of GAA including club, province, and county. Just days after Fermanagh won the Junior All-Ireland in December 2020, Brenda sadly lost her Mom. In this episode, Brenda talks about how positive the team environment was for her at this time and also about the support she received through the Women's Gaelic Players Association. As if Brenda didn’t have enough to keep her busy, she took up AFLW last year and earned herself a European Championship medal. She is currently studying a Master's Degree in performance coaching and runs an exceptional online platform @barbellsandbakes_.

  • S1 E8: Chloe Mustaki
    Aug 31 2022

Chloe Mustaki is my final guest this season! Chloe is a professional soccer player for the Republic of Ireland ladies football team and recently signed her first professional contract with Bristol City. Chloe grew her love for soccer by playing on a team full of boys and started playing for Ireland when she was just 13 years of age. She went on to captain the Irish U19 team to the semi-finals of the European Championship in 2014. Shortly after this, Chloe was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma, she received treatment, and put her soccer career on hold but never lost sight of the goal of debuting for the senior team. She made her way back to soccer and was further derailed from her Senior Cap with an ACL tear. I suppose in Chloe’s case you could say good things come to those who wait, after completing the tedious task of rehab she returned to the sport and won the Women's National League title with Shelborne. She also earned her first Senior Cap in February 2022, where she also delivered a player of the match performance. This episode is jam-packed with positivity and the will to never give up.

A big thank you to Chloe for being such a great guest!

Thank you for listening to the first season of the Move Mo Chara podcast and a special mention of thanks to all my guests this season, Amy, Vicky, Tally, Danni, Aishling, Cormac, Kate & Chloe!

  • S1 E7: Kate O' Shaughnessy
    Aug 24 2022

Kate O' Shaughnessy joins me on the podcast this week. Kate is a yoga and meditation teacher from Dublin. She runs her own workshops along with instructing yoga for the well-known online coaching platform 'Queen's Don't Quit'. Kate discovered her passion for yoga while traveling in Central America and decided to explore this a little further upon her return to Ireland. She then went on to complete her yoga teacher training course and immersed herself in the practice.

In this episode Kate gives us a great insight into understanding yoga and meditation in a literal sense and helps describe the benefits to both practices, in particular meditation. After speaking with Kate I was not one bit surprised that she found this niche because I think her energy really matches her practices. One thing that stuck out for me during this conversation was Kate's emphasis on self-awareness and being present (a little reminder to count to 3 before allowing our impulsive nature to take over ;)).

Kate has a lot to offer over on her Instagram page, @yogawithkate_ so be sure to check it out alongside her podcast, Suaimhneas.

Thanks again to Kate for being such a great guest!

  • S1 E4: Danni Mc Cormack
    Aug 3 2022

My guest this week is pro MMA fighter, Danni McCormack. Danni has a professional record of 5 wins and 2 losses. She first heard of the sport of MAA while swiping through Tinder, she got stopped in her tracks and was eager to learn more. While at a pool party in Vegas, she met the renowned MMA coach John Kavanagh and warned that she would soon train under him. Fast forward a few years, John Kavanagh is Danni’s head coach and Danni now co-owns an MMA gym (Relentless MMA) in Ireland with her husband Alan. She entered the sport in her early twenties, in the world of MMA this is deemed a late start but that certainly did not hold Danni back. She grinded her way through amateur fights and came out winning silver at the 2017 IMMAF World Championships. Soon after, she turned pro and is currently signed under the Bellator promotion and fights in their flyweight division.

In this episode, we talk about how she gave up her full time career as a pediatric physiotherapist to become a full time professional fighter. Danni was undefeated in her professional career until a recent loss at Bellator 275 in Dublin. Danni tells me how she learnt more from this loss than anything before.

Thank you to Danni for being such a great guest!
