About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

The only question which hangs over the life of Sir Richard Wyndham, notable whip, dandy and Corinthian, is one of marriage. On the eve of making the most momentous decision of his life, he is on his way home, a little worse for drink, when he chances upon a beautiful young fugitive climbing out of a window by means of knotted sheets - and so finds a perfect opportunity for his own escape.

The Corinthian has eveything that Georgette Heyer's devoted readership came to expect and that made her one of the most popular novelists of her day and still adored by a huge audience.

Classic Heyer, and one of my favourite stories. Narration was good, but not amazing. Words all properly pronounced and some effort with the voices, but occasions when it sounded wooden. Didn’t detract from the story.

One of my favourites

A lighthearted but unlikely romance which features some interesting characters. All is well that ends well but deception and happenstances threaten the happiness of the protagonists to the end.
Although Remmie Milner gives a lively enactment of the story, it is sometimes difficult to discern which character is speaking. Additionally, her articulation is often poor and she runs words together which detracts from the manner in which the main characters speak. I was particularly annoyed by the way she ran Sirrichard (Sir Richard ) together with an upward infection. As this occurs very frequently, it was most aggravating. Her regional accent lends itself well to some of the minor characters but took away from more aristocratic speech of some of the central characters.

The course of true love seldom runs smoothly!

Georgette Heyer’s books are always delightful and this one is no different.
The audiobook reading is a little odd as the narrator hasn’t developed recognisable voices for the different characters - which can make the story hard to follow.

Wonderful Heyer, mediocre reading

A lively performance that brought the characters to life off the page and brought out the humour in the story.

Wonderful narration

A Georgette Heyer story I have read many, many times and would place, without a doubt, amongst her top 10 romances. An absolute joy.

A mad romp!

Great story line. Very entertaining in word, but interpretation of phrases and accents not well rehearsed. Makes it easy to miss some of the gaffs and confuses characters at times

Great Story - interesting pronunciation at times

I listen to my Georgette Heyer for soothing time out, and listen to the same stories many times over.
This narrator will ensure I never listen to this one again.
Her pauses are infallibly inappropriate, as are her inflections of the subject's titles.
Very sad, as her actual voice is pleasant to listen to.

Terrible Narrator
