awful narration

The story was charming and entertaining Georgette Heyer as you would expect.

The narration was prissy and old fashioned. We need lush, wry amusing women narrating Ms Heyer's books - like Venetia, for example.

This was hard to listen to. I do not recommend it with this narrator.

Much better picture on this version

I have the previous version of this audio book, but am always put off by the picture it shows every time I start listening to it. Its an awful picture! I purchased this one in the hope that the narration comes up to standard as this picture is much more acceptable. It is a good narration. He gets a few words wrong at times but puts a better emphasis on many of the other subtle exchanges between the characters than the earlier version. I think this is the one I will be listening too more often than the other.
The story itself is in the true Georgette Heyer style. If its your first of her books - its an easy going Recency Romance that leaves you with a nice warm feel good feeling. If you are a fan on Heyer ... you can enjoy this version.

James Lailey version

Really enjoyed this version. Well read and pleasant voice. I also own the Eve Matheson version so check which one you prefer before you buy.

A forgotten favourite brought alive!

Excellently read and a delightful plot, I laughed aloud! I had forgotten just how clever Georgette Heyer was in her portrayal of minor characters.

Good on the whole

The narrator didn't do too bad a job differentiating between the characters, but I can't help wishing he wouldn't pronounce "ton" as if it were a weight. A couple of decidedly off bits of French too.

Great story

Really enjoyed this one. Made a nice change for the setting to be a bit more “villagey”, with the London high society mostly just referred to. Good clutch of characters, entertainingly written and narrated.

Thoroughly enjoyable

Heyer at her best and well narrated. Definitely a keeper for future enjoyment. My go to author when I need a lift.

Let down by poor narration

A slowish start. Good end. Audiobook less easy to follow as poor narration. He had the same voice and accent for many of the characters so sometimes hard to see who was saying what in a conversation and it made listening much less engaging than usual.
