Publisher's Summary

DI Nikki Galena: A police detective with nothing left to lose, she's seen a girl die in her arms, and her daughter will never leave the hospital again. She's gotten tough on the criminals she believes did this to her. Too tough. And now she's been given one final warning: make it work with her new sergeant, DS Joseph Easter, or she's out.

Her partner, DS Joseph Easter, is the handsome, squeaky-clean new member of the team. But his nickname, Holy Joe, belies his former life as a soldier. He has an estranged daughter who blames him for everything that went wrong with their family.

Their adversary is a ruthless man who holds DI Galena responsible for his terrible disfigurement.

Ok

The story was great but I struggled with the reader. It let down the whole book so reflects on the entire series

Liked the story

I thought the story was good and the characters well developed. Unfortunately, I didn't like the narrator very much but this hasn't stopped me from listening to the next titles in the series.

Crime on the Fens

So nice to be back in the Joy Ellis world. It’s been awhile since listen to the Jackman series and this book hasn’t disappointed with its new heroine. This was fast paced and kept me inthralled the whole way. It’s same same but different and nice to have a whole new story line open up with new characters, etc. Good performance by Henrietta Meier.

Positive Policing Tale

I listened to this in just one sitting. An entertaining holiday listen. Good conquers evil.

Engaging

Enjoyed it very much. Although ending a little disappointing. Would recommend this book to all.

Prefer the Jackman/Evans series but not bad

Came to this audiobook after listening to all the Jackman/Evans series which I prefer ... esp the narrator of that series who is very hard to beat. However interested enough to try Book 2 in this series and then see where it goes...

Adjusted justice

Although there were different directions to this story it had a cohesive flow and the main characters were rounded enough to understand and identify with. To be fair even the villains were relatively easy to relate to. It showed a broken society and self righteous judgements from a very young population that had no real experience as to what they were judging.

stick with it

spoiled by starting with this author and Richard Armitage I eagerly dove into this one. I was initially very put off by the narration but like other reviewers I tried dropping the speed to .9 and it improved enough for me to keep listening. at regular speed the female characters were too highly voiced and even perky which did not fit the story at all. by later in the book I could go back to regular speed as the narration improves quite a bit. I also tried a later in the series book which was far better so I am going to keep listening.

Characters with some depth.

Crime on the Fens is a darker story than others but it is humanistic. The lives are plausible and the characters have some depth. Overall it is well narrated and flows smoothly.
