Publisher's Summary
You can’t stay dead forever....
A group of high school students gather on the Isle of Skye’s remote Coral Beach for a hedonistic night of dancing, drugs, and alcohol to celebrate the passing of their finals. The new millennium is on the horizon and the future beckons, promising new hope and a fresh wind of optimism. In the coming days, many will leave the island for work or to study on the mainland, whereas others will remain on Skye and forge a more traditional path, much as their families have done for centuries before them. That is...all but one....
D.I. Duncan McAdam is dispatched home to the Misty Isle. A body has been found buried in a remote location on the Waternish peninsula. Well-preserved in the peat, Isla Matheson—missing for the better part of two decades—is revealed to a shocked island community. A teenage runaway is dead...and no one is talking.
Joining a small team of detectives, Duncan is tasked with revisiting those who knew Isla, those who cared for her...and those with the potential to kill her. In a remote community well-used to settling scores among themselves, will they trust one of their own when he asks questions or will they persevere with the façade of ignorance?
As he uncovers the island’s long-held secrets, Duncan must face his own demons. Old wounds he thought long healed have opened and this time, he cannot hide from them, he cannot run, and he won’t like the answers he is given. Skye is a place of mystery with a landscape of rugged beauty, but one that Duncan feels should exist only in his memories...or perhaps his worst nightmares.
A Long Time Dead is the first in a new series of crime thrillers from the multi-million best-selling crime writer, J M Dalgliesh, the author of the Hidden Norfolk and Dark Yorkshire books.

Really great listen!
I've been meaning to read/listen to Dagliesh for awhile as he was recommended to me by the JD Kirk readers group and this didn't disappoint! I ended up messaging JM when I guessed something and he was kind enough to write back, Angus King once again slayed the performance (I specifically go looking for books that he narrates) and I'm looking forward to spending some more time on the Isle of Skye with these characters:)

Great first story 😃
As a huge fan of JD Kirk and Angus King, I was really happy to come across this book! Had to smile at the sound of "Sinead" and "Tyler" just to mention a couple of JD's characters...oh and of course "Moira"! 😂 I did guess the nickname of Duncan's new colleague straight away, only because I remembered a joke with that name in there...but won't give it away 😎great first book with such descriptive words of a place I've certainly never been to, being Australian🇦🇺 now onto the next one! 😊

Perfect setting for a murder mystery
I love this new series by Dalgliesh, set on the Isle of Skye. I have been there and it is so atmospheric and steeped in history and culture. The weather there is perfect for deeds most foul too. DI Duncan is a complicated character and his temporary assignment back home on Skye bring out all his family baggage, as well as his old acquaintances. The mystery is a cold case that shocked the island and the time lapse makes it hard to solve. People are keeping secrets. Duncan is the perfect detective to solve the case because he understands the island people and can peel back the layers of clues. The book started out a little slow but soon picked up pace and is very interesting. Sadly no one on the island seemed to have a good marriage and there were a lot of unhappy people. But I cannot wait to start the second book and see how Duncan's character develops. Angus King is the best narrator in the business, especially for Scottish characters but I have read all the JD Kirk book narrated by Angus and the voices in A Long Time Dead sound just like the voices he uses for Jack Logan and Hoon and others in Kirk's books so it was a little confusing.

Lured to this new series by Angus King but…
…will stay because of the outstanding writing and character development. Duncan McAdam is immediately intriguing. Very canny for the author to set the story on the Isle of Skye, a real attraction for those longing to visit Scotland. I must listen again with a map handy to locate all those beautifully described locations. But that is just window dressing if the dialogue and plotting don’t hold up. I am delighted I have book two immediately available to test that theory further.

A Great Start to An Intriguing Series
Initially, what sold me on this title was the narration of Angus King and the story summary. It absolutely did not disappoint (Mr. King absolutely never does, mind, so that was a given). The characters are vivid -- the protagonist is flawed, brilliant, irreverent, and clearly a good man; and the Island itself is also brought to life behind the drama and mystery. The story is not "action-packed" (it would be difficult to imagine any long-cold case unfolding in a way that leant itself to being so), but the mysteries unfold through character conversation and interactions, all pushed forward by the determined DI and the workings of his irascible DS. The resolution was well sculpted, surprising, and very satisfying in the context of the world the author builds. I am excited for the next installment.

Awesome Narration of an average story
I love Angus King and it was his narration that kept me going. This story was average and long drawn out. It was the last 2 hours that finally magic happened.

Loved it
Slow burn. Great characters not too far fetched. Simple story but sets the scene beautifully to make me want more. Looking forward to the next one. Angus King is his usual brilliant self.

A great new series by the looks of it
I will be downloading the next one in the series and hope it will continue in the same format. Love it.

Loved it!
When I first listened I thought this is not for me but
once the setting of the scene was over I was hooked. Really great listen………..just waiting for the next one now.

Engrossing story, beautifully narrated
Excellent introduction to the protagonist whose determination and insight solves the twenty year old mystery. Looking forward to getting to know the intrepid DI better in future

Take a chance!!!please
it's a new series so you have a worry that it won't be as good as the Hidden Norfolk series
well. narration-excellent.
plot, ok I had a feeling I knew who had done it but that might be my mind works darkly but Duncan -made to feel 2nd rate and unwanted with the task of basically checking past alibis doggedly went at it. Feeling he was right.
And the different bits of the story came together well ending so you know there is more to come and for me I feel I want to know more about the people I have just met

A great start to a new series
I had read and enjoyed many of the JM Dalgliesh's Dark Yorkshire series before spotting this new Misty Isle series. Once I saw that this book was narrated by the wonderful Angus King I knew that this would be a cracker and I wasn't disappointed. Great storyline, with Angus breathing life into the characters. Looking forward to many more.
