Impractical advice

I wouldn't try some of the advice such as the "repetitive technique". You will definitely sound stupid or the person you're talking to will feel you think they're stupid for repeating your reasons over & over. Another advice re what to say when you arrived late at work. It suggested to stop giving excuses like traffic is heavy. Instead say "I did not take care of my car...". That sounds irresponsible, not a wise advice. Most of the advice, you really just need to use common sense. Some advice sounds confrontational or insulting.

I can't listen to this any more

I'm only 3 chapters in and I can't listen to this any more. The author uses terms without defining them, makes generalized statements without examples or suggesting there will be examples, and speaks far to fast for the information to be retained.

Average at best

For sure not my favorite book on communication It gets you through a long list of practical things but most are boring, lacking real value. It seems a collage of topics investigated on the internet and "stiched" together.

provides eyes opening/perspective changing ideas

Helps a person such as I, who has had minimal social interaction see the social world from different lens which will enrich your social interactions...but you must be proactive and do your part...put yourself out there and see/experience the difference.

Narrator is terrible, book is above average

I liked some of the content in the book but it's nothing spectacular after reading it twice and listening once.
I bought both the Kindle ebook and the audiobook for Whispersync. However, the narrator has the same lazy tone throughout as if he just got out of bed with a cold and is reading it for the first time. He seems to make up the words as he goes along in places and keeps adding in silly filler words and says things backwards that is quite annoying.
The book does have a couple of good sections such as Chapter 18 Eye Accessing Cues. Would never listen to this narrator again though - sounded so terrible.

No ground breaking new info in this book

Is there anything you would change about this book?

The book is of to a good start, but it gets a little borring when the writer goes of into how wonderfull NLP is and goes on with NLP principles for a couple of chapters. I would have loved if the first hour was the benchmark because the rest felt like the writer was just telling you about different approaches from different areas.

Would you recommend Communication Skills Training to your friends? Why or why not?

If you new in the field this migth be good. If so buy the paper book, because there is ALOT of pulletpoint reading and it doesn't work in a audiobook

What three words best describe Wendell Wadsworth’s performance?

Good voice and good speed.

Was Communication Skills Training worth the listening time?

Some parts

Narator couldn't read very well.

Narrator tries but doesn't know how to pronounce some words like interpreted. He says interpretated. Or congruent, he puts tye emphasis on the wrong parts of words and sounds like he's struggling a bit. Also sometimes uses 'is' when he means 'it'. Ironic for a book about communication. A difficult listen. Also the content is a statement of the obvious. I regret buying.

Badly narrated.

If this book wasn’t for you, who do you think might enjoy it more?

No one. The narrators voice is uninspiring, his intonation is all over the place, and there are extended pauses in the audio which should have been edited out. This is inexcusable for a book concerned with improving communication skills as it makes for very uncomfortable listening. If anything, this an example of how NOT to communicate.

What could Ian Tuhovsky have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Chosen a better narrator. I also found the style of writing to be clumsy and at times plain weird - possibly because the book has been translated.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

He ruined it.

You didn’t love this book--but did it have any redeeming qualities?

None.

Any additional comments?

Having listened to many audio books this is very amateurish and to be avoided. I am surprised Audible sell it. The high scoring reviews for this audio book raise questions as to their authenticity.

Check it out...

It would be helpful if this book was required reading in middle school. It should also be required reading for anybody studying business or trying to manage people. This is one of the best books about "social graces" on the market. There were multiple occasions where reading this I would begin talking to my computers screen, saying things like "Yes, FINALLY someone is pointing this out". I have no doubt this is worth what you pay for. Check it out.

This is an awesome audiobook

I understand the root causes of my anxiety in different social situations now and have begun to use the tools the author suggests regularly. Starting to see real results, which is encouraging. I highly recommend this book
