Publisher's Summary

Have others ever told you to "stop being so sensitive"? Have you ever looked at other people and wondered how they manage to get through the day without noticing the suffering going on all around them?

Do you feel so emotionally delicate in comparison to your peers that you have tried to block out what is going on around you? You may have even resorted to coping mechanisms such as overeating, overworking, or smoking as a means of managing your emotions.

Maybe you have tried to "grow a thicker skin", or attempted to cover up your feelings with humor? Perhaps you have always felt different to others since childhood, but could never quite put your finger on why.

If this description resonates with you, congratulations! You may well be an empath.

Unfortunately, an empath who lacks insight into their own nature is likely to be miserable.

Most of us are familiar with the concept of empathy. Aside from sociopaths, who are largely incapable of appreciating what another individual may be feeling, humans are generally able to understand what others are going through in most situations.

Empaths, however, constitute the small group of people who not only understand the emotions of others, but literally feel them too.

In short, an empath takes this common human ability of relating to other peoples' emotions to extremes.

If you have no idea why you are so readily affected by the emotions of others and the events around you, you will become psychologically unstable. You will be unsure as to where your true feelings end, and those of other people begin.

Hypersensitivity can be a burden if not properly managed, which is why it's so important that all Empaths learn to harness the special gift they have been given.

That's where this book comes in. Millions of other people around the world share your gifts and lead happy, fulfilling lives. It's time to learn how to put your rare gift to use, maximize your human potential, and thrive in life!

Well written on identity

Although I couldn’t relate to all aspects (and he doesn’t expect you to) it gave me some valuable insights and clarity that I could share with my partner (so he could understand me!) It was an easy listen and something I could come back to another time.

A valuable and interesting read

This book made some excellent points and suggestions around being aware of and dealing with the behaviours of those who might not respect our boundaries and needs. I found myself nodding and relating to the examples given. I feel far better prepared to manage my energy levels and needs. I recommend the read

Very Useful Information

As both a psychotherapist and a highly sensitive person, I have been aware of my own emphatic abilities for many years. Yet in listening to this book I learned new and useful information.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who suspects that they have abilities to sense their environment in ways that seem different than most other people. The book gives useful descriptions of how empaths function and describes both the positive and negative aspects of functioning this way in the world. The book goes on to give suggestions about what empaths may need to learn to do to learn to take care of themselves in different situations.

Teaching these skills is beyond the scope of this book. It describes what they are and gives a few suggestions about where to find the needed resources.

I have found that Logosynthesis, as described in my book, "Letting It Go: Relieve Anxiety and Toxic Stress in Just a Few Minutes Using Only Words" has been very useful in helping me to manage my own tendencies to be overwhelmed by some ordinary environmental situations. Other Energy Therapies would be useful as well.

Very helpful!

This book gave me a lot of insight. I've always been someone that was told I was too sensitive as if it was a bad thing but after listening to this audio, I feel like I got some tools on how to deal with those types of people and also how to use my sensitivity to my own advantage. Very helpful!

Very Intesting, Very Informative and helpful!

Would you consider the audio edition of Empath: An Empowering Book for the Highly Sensitive Person on Utilizing Your Unique Ability and Maximizing Your Human Potential to be better than the print version?

The book really gave me a lot of insight. The book is well structured; flow of topics is well arranged, chapters were well connected.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Empath: An Empowering Book for the Highly Sensitive Person on Utilizing Your Unique Ability and Maximizing Your Human Potential?

This book provided a good tool for handling different types of people. I like Some areas covered such as empathy, not related to specific Gender, different energy vampires.

What’s an idea from the book that you will remember?

This book provided a good tool for handling different types of people.

Any additional comments?

I am giving a 4 rating (I wanted to give 4.5 but there is no option of selection for 4.5) just because initial chapters were stretched explaining concepts and who are Empath sometimes felt boring (not exact bore feeling)

Well written & enjoyable to listen to.

Very insightful look at the subject. This book has information like how to tell if your a empath. And what kind of people sensitives attract. You'll find plenty of helpful techniques for handling stress and anxiety with suggestions for situations a sensitive person should avoid. If you suspect that you are or may know someone who's empathic this book will explain a lot. The narrator spoke clearly and did a good job relating the information. I volunteered to listen to this book in exchange for a free copy. I recommend this book interested in this subject matter.

Enlightening & Informative!

I’ve known since I was a little girl that my ability to empathize with others is extraordinarily rare. Until recently, I didn’t realize that there was a name for it. In fact, this year I’ve felt it has been more of a curse with the level of pain, suffering and turmoil in our Country. Once I learned of the term “Empaths” I sought out to find resources that were clear, concise and offered practical advice for managing the depth of my feeling. I’ve really struggled to separate my feelings from the unbearable pain others are suffering right now. This book made everything I’ve felt my whole life actually make sense. I understand now that my heart isn’t a neurotic possessed organ trying to take over my life and that Empaths have a gift. We just have to learn how to manage it appropriately. This is definitely a book I will reference frequently, as I continue to broaden my knowledge and toolkit on Empaths and the incredible power we have to connect to our fellow humans (and fur babies)!

Very helpful

Thank you. This book was amazing. At 50 years old I have always known that I was different. Over the years I have been to numerous therapist], counselors, and various types of group therapy. I have been labeled with different mental health issues but unable to find any relief from conventional treatment. I recently had a new friend point out that I may be an empath. I initially dismissed this idea but for the last month or so it has hung in the back of my mind. I finally decided to research this idea and chose your book as a starting point. so many questions have been answered and for the first time in my life I feel I am on to something that makes sense. I would recommend this book to anyone. I believe this book is going to be the beginning of a new much more positive life for me. Thank you again so much.

Now I understand

This audible was so helpful in understanding what I have been going through all these years. For example, what I was going through as a child, finding my place as a young adult and living loving life now. I recommend this to all who are or know someone empathic. It is a true gift that all should embrace. Had I known this as a child my life would have been much easier. Thank you so much Ian Tuhovsky.

Positive and inspirational

I was not sure whether I was struggling because of my sensitivity or something else, this book helped me to realise that I belong to the type of people called empaths. I found lots of my traits and behavioural patterns in the descriptions, but what is more, book gave me a hope that I could re-structure my relationships with people in a way to overcome this sensitivity and to learn strategies to avoid negative people. I would recommend this book for anyone who wants to understand the power of empathy and the life of emphatic person.

A book that really spoke to me

I bought this audiobook because I have a keen interest in my own mental health and psychology in general. I didn't expect the book to speak to me as much as it did - to be honest, the whole concept of an empath was new to me. Whilst listening I couldn't help continually think, 'yeah, that's me. That's how I feel in such a situation'. Using his own personal experience, Ian Tuhovsky explains the subject matter in a very honest and accessible way. On top of this, he gives tips on how empaths should best go about their lives to make them as meaningful as possible. I'm now working my way through his other books. I thoroughly recommend this one.
