Enter the two-year Happy Lawyer Project, spanning interviews with 100+ lawyers, and hundreds of hours of research, analysis, and development, all aimed at trying to answer one question:—How do we, as busy lawyers and professionals, become happier? It turns out that the happy lawyers had a number of things in common—key ingredients they all shared. Unhappy lawyers shared some of those ingredients, but were missing others. The problem is that there’s a recipe for happiness and, whether intentional or not, the unhappy lawyers haven’t followed it.

Sofia Ali-Khan’s parents emigrated from Pakistan to America, believing it would be a good country. With a nerdy interest in American folk history and a devotion to the rule of law, Ali-Khan would pursue a career in social justice, serving some of America’s most vulnerable communities. By the time she had children of her own—having lived, worked, and worshipped in twelve different towns across the nation—Ali-Khan felt deeply American, maybe even a little extra American for having seen so much of the country.
