Story
Deep in Essex and her own thoughts, Sophie had a feeling something was going to happen and then it did. Chris has entered the pub and re-entered her life after Sophie had finally stopped thinking about him and regretting what she'd done. Sophie has a chance at creating a new ending and paying off her emotional debts (if not her financial ones). All she has to do is act exactly like a normal, well-adjusted person and not say any of her inner monologue out loud. If she can suppress her paranoia, pornographic visualisations and lying maybe she'll even end up getting the guy she wants?

Story
The correspondence between Carrie Allsop and David Mayer reveals, piece by piece, the painful details of a devastating affair between their spouses. With each commiserating scratch of the pen, they confess their fears and bare their souls. They share the bewilderment over how things went so wrong and come to wonder where to go from here. Told entirely through the letters of two comforting strangers and those of two illicit lovers, Evidence of the Affair explores the complex nature of the heart. And ultimately, for one woman, how liberating it can be when it’s broken.

Story
At times stern, at other times patient, at times perceptive, at other times in sad denial, Olive Kitteridge, a retired schoolteacher, deplores the changes in her little town of Crosby, Maine, and in the world at large, but she doesn’t always recognize the changes in those around her: a lounge musician haunted by a past romance; a former student who has lost the will to live; Olive’s own adult child, who feels tyrannized by her irrational sensitivities; and her husband, Henry, who finds his loyalty to his marriage both a blessing and a curse.

Publisher's Summary
Two stories about the uncertainties of attraction, from the acclaimed author of Normal People and Conversations with Friends.
'Mr Salary' is Nathan. Sukie moved in with him years ago because her mother was dead and her father was difficult, and she had nowhere else to go. Now they are on the brink of the inevitable.
My love for him felt so total and so annihilating that it was often impossible for me to see him clearly at all.
In 'Colour and Light', Aidan and Pauline watch a firework display together. They are almost strangers. But their stumbling connection pains Aidan more than any casual flirtation.
He now feels utterly confused as to why they seem to be arguing, confused to the point of abrupt despair.

Rooney Lover
I loved these short stories but they were a bit of a tease, I wish they had of been longer. Looking forward to Sally Rooney’s September release.
Great speaking performances from Aoife McMahon & Sam O’Mahony, particularly Aoife McMahon she’s outstanding.

Yes but no
Sally Rooney fans will enjoy these short stories. She ingeniously inserts the reader into her characters’ lives and allows us to experience a short snippet of their existence, as vividly as if we were there. She is a literary genius.
But I think you’d be disappointed if thus was your first experience of her. Audible should not have charged full price for such a short work.
