About this listen
'The literary phenomenon of the decade.' Guardian
'The book that defined a generation.' Stylist
**The modern classic behind the BAFTA-winning series. **
Connell and Marianne grow up in the same small town in the west of Ireland, but the similarities end there. In school, Connell is popular and well-liked, while Marianne is a loner. But when the two strike up a conversation - awkward but electrifying - something life-changing begins.
Normal People is a story of mutual fascination, friendship and love. It takes us from that first conversation to the years beyond, in the company of two people who try to stay apart but find they can't.
'Tender and devastating.' Guardian
'A book to cancel plans for.' Grazia
'A classic coming-of-age love story.' Vogue

character development is nonsensical. how can someone clever and dedicated enough to get an English scholarship at University, never have had their creative writing read by another person until after they graduated?
why would a person who grew up in an abusive household, return there when they have the means, worldliness and direct personality to easily walk away? The only reason is so she can be rescued by her hot man. it's a shallow, unimaginative, trope.
even the sex is boring.
I just don't get it. normal life is normal. we're all anxious and bring our stuff to the table, but instead of finding magic in the little things, this book makes the most exciting experiences in life, banal. even the breakups are lacklustre.
I pity anyone who lives a life with so little humour.
apathetic book
