Story
Detective Sergeant Chris Waters got the call at 05.29 that July morning. This is it, said DCI Reeve, you'll be first there, it's all yours, you're the crime scene manager. Suddenly, after months of waiting and wondering, Waters finds himself in at the deep end, and alone at the scene of a puzzling murder. As the investigation proceeds, the detectives at Kings Lake Central find themselves visiting familiar places and talking to some familiar faces, while old enmities reappear in the incident room. Before this is over, Chris Waters will need to make a career-changing decision.

Publisher's Summary
Anthony Hetheridge, ninth baron of Wellegrave, chief superintendent for New Scotland Yard, never married - no children, no pets, no hobbies, and not even an interesting vice - will turn 60 in three weeks. With the exception of his chosen career, too sordid for his blue-blooded family to condone, his life has been safe and predictable. But then he meets Detective Sergeant Kate Wakefield - beautiful, willful, and nearly half his age.
When Hetheridge saves the outspoken, impetuous young detective from getting the sack, siding with her against Scotland Yard's powerful male hierarchy, his cold, elegantly balanced world spins out of control. Summoned to London's fashionable Belgravia to investigate the brutal murder of a financier, Hetheridge must catch the killer while coping with his growing attraction to Kate, the reappearance of an old flame, and the secret that emerges from his own past.
Fall in love with Ice Blue, book one in the New York Times best-selling Lord & Lady Hetheridge mystery series.

Kept me guessing.
This is quite a deceptive book. The blurb reads like a cosy mystery/romance but it is quite different. It is a well structured mystery; just when you think you know who did it, there is another twist. There is plenty of detail about the character's lives outside of Scotland Yard and a lovely fiesty heroine. I particularly liked the little touches of humor in the story. The reading lets it down a bit, the male character sounds depressed, rather than refined and the heroine's cockney accent is overdone. It is not enough to put me off, though; I will be buying the next book in the series.

Easy Read does make you smile
You don't have to engage you brain with this one and its excellent for awaiting sleep, doing the housework or driving on long hauls. Personalities do make you smile. Very easy read and I had to purchase the next in this series to see how it all pans out. On that basis I can recommend.

Enjoyable cozy mystery.
Enjoyable first instalment in a contemporary cozy mystery with the main characters being Scotland Yard detectives. Good blend of humour, mystery and romance.
