Publisher's Summary

From New York Times best-selling author Kristen Proby comes an all-new novel in her Big Sky series, Courage. This is the first story in the Heroes of Big Sky, all about men in uniform in Cunningham Falls!

Natasha Mills feels like she’s loved firefighter Sam Waters her entire life. Since she first met him during middle school, she’s harbored a secret crush on her best friend’s big brother. It’s just something she lives with every day - too bad he doesn’t notice her. To Sam, Tash is his little sister’s best friend, and that’s it.

Disaster strikes the Waters family, leaving Sam’s sister and her husband dead, and their young children in the hands of Sam and Natasha. Suddenly, these two are navigating the loss of people they loved, while trying to figure out parenthood together. The grief is devastating, and raising twins is harder than either of them bargained for. But in working together, and leaning on each other, Sam and Tash learn that family comes in all different shapes and sizes.

The more time he spends with Natasha, though, the more Sam realizes just how sweet and sexy she really is. He finds himself slowly but surely falling for her. But when the time comes for him to let her go - will he be able to walk away from the family he’s helped build?

Kristen Proby is a Master!

Cunningham Falls! One of my very favorite fictional towns to visit. I always feel like I'm going home to visit my family when I read a part of this series. I could not be more excited that it’s evolving into the next “generation” of this wonderful town. (Hello Seth ;), I can’t wait for his story!)

I was so happy to get Sam’s story. After seeing him throughout this series It was nice to see him and Natasha get their love story. I have to say this one hit all the emotions for me. I don’t want to give too much away, but the events that begin this story just wrecked me and made for such an emotional listen. I haven’t really experienced a storyline line close to this before. It made for such a real connection to these characters.

My heart broke for Kevin and Kelsey. Sam and Natasha were thrown in the deep end, I loved watching them grow in this story and become so strong and great family.

I loved them, I ranted at them, I rooted for them. This is a great listen and it didn’t disappoint even if you’ve never read any Big Sky before, you will love this story. I can’t wait for more.

Loved This One!

Natasha and Sam. A perfect couple in a perfect love story. No angst, no drama, just sweetness and love. Stephen Dexter and Erin Mallon do a great job of narrating. I loved the characters and the storyline. 2 people taking on the responsibility of raising her best friend and his sister’s kids after there is an accident. It all works and it’s worth a credit.

Emotional and heartwarming.

Suffering the loss of a loved one is hard enough as it is but then having parenthood rusted into your hands it’s a bit more than anyone could possibly ask for. Finding a delicate way to balance your emotions while raising twins is almost impossible. Natasha and Sam are doing all the can to support, help and get this co parenting thing down. Both have had secret feelings for the other for years, the time spent together and all the emotions broke a barrier and they both gave in. As they navigate the waters and start to become a family parts of life that were put on hold leave a choice lingering.

Courage is an emotional ride of a story that leaves you feeling so good at the end. I got choked up so many times while listening. The amount of emotions that come through the words of the story are unbelievable. Natasha and Sam I have a unique situation that they try to make the best of. Feelings that they’ve had for one another for years come to the surface which is only natural considering the situation that they are now in. They came together as a family, And made a new family of their own. I have to give amazing credit to the narrators. Their talent through the audio narration of this book truly gives another layer of emotion to this Hit you hard in the heart story.

Another great Big Sky novel.

If you are familiar with and in love with the characters and community of Cunningham Falls, Montana (and even if you aren’t) this is another fantastic addition to the Big Sky family. Although the initial premise of the book is sad and tragic, Kristen Proby adeptly and gently weaves a story around loss into one of love and new beginnings. She doesn’t sugar-coat the hard, real-life issues that Natasha and Sam encounter, but she does it with a heartwarming attention to the emerging love story that is at the heart of the book. Erin Mallon and Stephen Dexter are superb and bring all the emotion and heat that these characters require and deserve. Well done all around!!

Great story, great narrators!

This is another great book from this author! She is so talented when it comes to world building—awesome characters, witty banter, lots of appearances of old friends from previous books! I loved Sam and Natasha, hot chemistry, so much love! Be prepared for lots of emotions with this one—tissues required!! The kids steal the scene sometimes. I can’t wait to see Gage’s book unfold. As far as the audio, both narrators were great, and I really enjoyed the experience!

Friends to Lovers

Kristen Proby had me be crying in the beginning and smiling at the end. My favorite kind of read. So many emotions. I love how this book takes you on a journey to heal and then give you the happy ever after you want. Sam and Natasha become guardians of 2 five year old twins after the death of their parents and coming together to raise them has many ups and downs. I found the story very real and the characters believable.

Taking the next steps

Courage comes in many different forms and it isn’t easy to pick up the pieces up after an unexpected tragedy. Natasha and Sam’s lives were ripped apart due to a tragic accident that resulted in the death of someone they loved. Left with having to raise their five year old twins they are desperately trying to pick up the pieces and console one another. It’s difficult when their world was knocked off their axis and Sam is about to move to Spokane for a new job. Kristen is a magnificent author and her narrators always draw you in desperate to see what happens next!

Sweet & Emotional

This story begins with a tragedy for all the characters, Tasha loses her best friend, Sam loses a sister, and two young children lose their parents. It’s quickly revealed that Sam and Tasha will be co-guardians for the twins and they both put their lives on hold to try and figure out a new normal for themselves and the children.

There is adjustment and compromise for all of them, with Tasha doing most of the work and not really wanting to ask for assistance. When Sam realizes that Tasha is stretching herself too thin, he jumps right in to help her out. It’s clear that the children feel more secure when both Tasha and Sam are present in their lives. There is definite heat between Tasha and Sam and the close proximity has them acting on their feelings and really beginning to become a family. The conflict comes in with an out-of-town job offer for Sam that can further his career but take him away from the kids and Tasha.

This is a very sweet, fast read, low on angst and with a quick resolution to the conflict. I enjoyed the characters and the story kept me engaged. My heart broke for this little family that had to work through such grief while still moving forward. This is a new series, but a spin-off from Kristen Proby’s Big Sky series and several characters from those books appear here. I have not read all of the Big Sky series but had no trouble following along, this can definitely be read as a stand-alone.

This was a four star read for me, but the narration, which was stellar, bumped it up to a five. I really enjoy dual narration and I had no trouble following along and knowing the difference between major and minor characters.

Great narrators for a new series

Courage is the first book in an all new series spin off, Heroes of Big Sky. It takes place in Cunningham Falls and if you've read any previous Kristen Proby books, you'll definitely recognize some of the side characters from Big Sky. This first book centers around Sam Waters, firefighter and Natasha Mills, nail tech.

The very first chapter throws us right in the deep end of the story. The death of Sam's sister and her husband leaves Tasha and Sam parents of twins, Kelsey and Kevin. They are insta parents and thrown together to care for the children while trying to figure out their new normal. The kids, Sam and Tasha deal with parenting, grief and making things as easy on the children as they can. But as they go forward, they see that they work better together AND under one roof. Luckily, Sam has always found his sister's best friend Tasha attractive and Tasha has always harbored a crush on her best friend's older brother. Will that put extra strain on an already abnormal predicament or will this help these two navigate a new normal for themselves AND the children?

This is a story of family, friendship, devastation and learning to come together and lean on others for help. Natasha has a hard time asking for help throughout and she basically turns her life upside down for her friend's children. She quits her job to care for them and lives off her savings for months before Sam realizes what she is doing. Sam, meanwhile keeps doing his day to day job of firefighter and is the big protector, alpha type male. I understood both of these characters, but they had some communication issues to begin with when they didn't lay out guidelines. I got a little frustrated with that, but once they got on the same page, it was easy to see that they just wanted what was best for everyone.
Courage is a quick read and doesn't dive in real emotionally deep, but you still get an effortless sweet and swoony story amidst the grief. The story begins with tragedy, but then quickly moves into the healing stage and then some romance within a short amount of time. I would've liked to see more grieving or communicating with the kids as they moved forward. They were only 5 and were lashing out at school, but we didn't get to see a lot of communication in how they dealt with that. The main characters are likable, with a few communication issues that get taken care of quickly. And I LOVED the small town and the various characters included. It gives you an update on past characters if you've read the books and makes the story more colorful for readers that haven't read them (as I have only read a couple from this 'world'). It's just a great small town that comes together for their people.

I listened to the audio and Erin Mallon and Stephen Dexter did a great job with their characters. Erin gave the feels and grief when needed and Stephen got the alpha, protective man down.

Overall, this is a great introduction into a new series and I can't wait to read more in this world.

More than the normal romance

Natasha and Sam are thrown into parenthood through tragic circumstances. Sam’s sister and Natasha’s best friend die leaving them joint custody of her twins. Natasha has a crush on Sam and the feeling is reciprocated, but now they’ve got instant parenting brought into the mix. This book is more than your standard romance because it not only features the evolution of a relationship, but how they each evolve as parents. I loved the twins and how they dealt with grief and eventually moving on. All in all this was a good read, and best of all I enjoyed catching up with the rest of the Big Sky series characters. I enjoyed listening to this book. Both narrators are excellent and really bring the book to life.
