About this listen

From New York Times bestselling author Penelope Ward comes a new, STANDALONE novel…

ABBY:

I’m falling for the father of the baby I’m carrying.

The problem is: it’s not my baby. And the broody widower is not looking for a long-term partner.

As a surrogate, the deal was that I’d only be in England long enough to give birth.

At first, the man seemed as pretentious as his name: Sigmund Benedictus. He and I butted heads.

Sig challenged my intentions, accused me of just wanting to do this for the money.

Gradually, he learned to trust me.

He even became protective. Over time, our heated animosity turned into fiery chemistry.

I was falling in love with him. But my time here had a limit. I needed to protect my heart from the devastatingly gorgeous older man who’d end up breaking it.

SIG:

When my in-laws told me they wanted to use my dead wife’s eggs to conceive a grandchild, I wasn’t immediately on board. They swore that on her deathbed Britney told them it was what she wanted—but only if I fathered the baby. Her parents insisted they would be the ones to raise it.

Against my better judgment, I agreed.

I vowed to keep my heart out of it, though.

I’d continue to pretend it wasn’t happening and live the empty, single life I’d become accustomed to the past five years since Britney died.

And despite the fact that a certain younger American named Abby Knickerbocker had awakened things inside me that I thought were long dead…

I most certainly wouldn’t fall in love with the surrogate.

I love Penelope Ward’s books! Sweet, romantic and sexy. Doesn’t hurt that the amazingly talented Jacob Morgan and Desireé Ketchum narrate the book!

This is going in my Favorites. I REALLY enjoyed this (as well as its standalone predecessor The Aristocrat)
Both narrators are excellent. However Jacob Morgan/Zachary Webber narrator of both books) is just SO good in evoking caring, sensitivity and a wide range of emotions... such a special narration. He acts rather than just reads and pulls you into the story effortlessly. He has now became a top favorite and I seek books read by him out.
While he plays a Brit, he doesn't try to pass as British (which often can be agonising with some narrators). Rather he suggests a British accent, and I find that works well.
The story itself is beautiful. The title sounds like it could be baby centred but in many ways it isn't. It's a love story with slow build and moving connections. Penelope has don't such a good job with it.
Highly recommended.

Heart-felt narration elevates an already beautiful story.

Now hear me out but Jacob Morgan's British accent sounds a bit like the actor Theo James! Obviously this is just my opinion but it definitely didn't hurt to imagine haha. Overall this was an easy listen, somewhat predictable but I enjoyed it. Would have loved if the book was read in a duet style as when each narrator does their own interpretation of the MMC / FMC it's a little jarring but hey, it doesn't take away from the enjoyment of the story.

Enjoyable listen. The male narrator sounds like..

This is a beautiful story and a very easy listen. The narration was well done. I'll have to go find the first book now.

This is my first book by this author and WOW, was it amazing! Outstanding!! It certainly exceeded any expectations I may have had going into the book.

Whilst it had some predictability to it in some ways, there were parts of the story I couldn't have predicted.

And the steam with smut scenes were on fire 🔥🔥🔥

Penelope Ward definitely has skill at writing a story that gets all the emotions going and will have you on the edge of your seat to see how the story ends!!

The to lead characters from The Aristocrat are also in this book. And from what is mentioned Sig and his deceased wife were in the previous book so might pay to read that first but it is not necessary and this can be counted as a standalone.

The narrator's Jacob Morgan and Desiree Ketchum were amazing! I especially loved the male narrator. He did an amazing British accent!

I highly recommend this book! it is definitely worth 5 stars maybe even more.

WOW!!! Just WOW! An outstanding book❤💜😍💘🔥🔥
