Brandon Sanderson is a New York Times best-selling author of fantasy, thrillers, and science fiction books.

Sanderson’s first published book was Elantris (2005). A prolific writer, Sanderson went on to publish the first book in his Mistborn book series, The Final Empire (2006), which was followed by The Well of Ascension (2007), The Hero of Ages (2008), The Alloy of Law (2011), Shadows of Self (2015), and The Bands of Mourning (2016). Other popular fantasy books by Sanderson include Warbreaker (2009), The Rithmatist (2013), Perfect State (2015), the Stormlight Archive series, the Reckoners series, and the Alcatraz series — available now as audiobooks.

Sanderson’s epic fantasy books have earned him a legion of fans as well as awards including the World Science Fiction Society’s ‘Best Novel’ Hugo Award for The Emperor’s Soul. In addition to writing fantasy novels, Sanderson teaches creative writing at Brigham Young University and is a host of the weekly Writing Excuses podcast.

Before becoming a published author, Sanderson studied Biochemistry and English at Brigham Young University, and went to Seoul in Korea to serve as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. While earning his undergraduate degree, Sanderson worked nights as a desk clerk at a hotel. During this time he was able to write seven novels. Sanderson was born December 19, 1975 in Nebraska, United States. He lives in Utah with his family.
