Yuri Vieira is a writer and filmmaker from São Paulo now based in Goiânia, Brazil. He lived in Latacunga, Ecuador, where he became a mountaineer, having climbed, among others, the active volcanoes Guagua Pichincha (4800m), Tungurahua (5060m), and Cotopaxi (5890m). He studied at Universidade de Brasília (UnB) – where he took film classes with Nélson Pereira dos Santos – and, after living for two years with writer Hilda Hilst (for whom he worked as secretary and webmaster), he now works as a screenwriter and audiovisual director. He published his first book, A Tragicomédia Acadêmica - Contos Imediatos do Terceiro Grau, in 1998, and in April 2007, he directed his first fiction short film, Espelho (Mirror), which, besides receiving the Best Director award at the 3rd FestCine, was an invited short film at the "No Siesta, Fiesta!" festival (Tromsø, Norway, 2009) and the "Verão Cinema e Outras Coisas" (Summer Cinema and Other Things) showcase (Costa da Caparica, Portugal, 2009). In 2018, his book A Sábia Ingenuidade do Dr. João Pinto Grande (Dr. João Pinto Grande's Wise Ingenuity), published by Editora Record, was a semifinalist for the Oceanos Award (formerly Portugal Telecom), one of the most prestigious literary awards in the Portuguese language. In the same year, he published O Exorcista na Casa do Sol (The Exorcist in the House of the Sun) with José Olympio Editora, in which he recounts his time living with Hilda Hilst (1930-2004).
