About this listen

Bailey Collins believed she had outrun what Eli Murphy did to her in high school. Ten years and thousands of miles away from the scene of the crime, Bailey is laser-focused on her career. She's a rising star at her TV network, newly promoted as senior producer for the reality show, The Cruise. Things are on the up. And then Eli Murphy applies to be a contestant on The Cruise.

It’s taken a lot for Bailey to make something of her life and to heal from her adolescent trauma. She's changed her name and chopped her hair into a severe blonde pixie. But what she really owes her new life to is The Squad, the group of ride-or-die sisters-for-life survivors who have bonded over group therapy and stayed closely linked. They're always ready to assist one of their own in seeking the justice so often denied them.

Being stuck incognito on a luxury yacht with Eli might actually provide the opportunity for closure that Bailey has been waiting a decade for. As senior producer, she's in the perfect position to cast him and five members of The Squad as the female contestants on the show. As an all-new season of The Cruise sets sail, Bailey and her secret squad begin their own game for the ultimate prize: revenge.

Witty feminist thriller

Honestly, it’s the kind of story that sticks with you long after you put it down.

Just finished The Cruise by Naima Brown and wow… 😳 I was hooked from the first word! Takes me weeks to finish an Audible whilst walking my doggy, only time I truely get peace and quiet to concentrate on a story without words in my face, yet the artists and producers did such a great job capturing all the voices and essence of the story I was hooked and finished jn a day!!

Bailey Collins is a force—smart, fierce, and not letting anyone get away with messing with her. This thriller kept me on the edge of my seat, twisting and turning like a luxury yacht in a storm.

If you love dark, twisty psychological thrillers, this one’s a must-read (well listen—honetsly the Audible narration is fantastic!)

I loved how The Cruise explores trauma, revenge, and the power of women standing together, strong, united.

I have come across this book several times and even though it looked interesting, and the reviews were great, the description didn’t grab me. But, when I saw it in the plus catalogue I figured I’d add it to my library. I am so glad I did.

It’s way more than it seems to be and the story handled a really prevalent and sadly too common trauma with equal parts grace and victorious uprising. Loved the characters, adored the relationships they had with each other and really liked how it all came together. Kicking myself for not grabbing it sooner.

However, like many other reviewers, I do believe the authors note and trigger warning should have been at the beginning.

Far better than the description makes out

So satisfying. Absolutely fuking love the idea of The Squad and love a revenge motive.

Love the writing & story was gripping. Enthralling performances. Maybe male voices could do with sounding a little more different? But also, 2 major plot cracks that drove me crazy…
Spoiler Alert:

If Eden had established a new identity to hide from previous, abusive boyfriend, she NEVER would have gone on a reality TV show🤷🏼‍♀️🫣🤦🏼‍♀️

Boy/Girl twins cannot be identical (unless one is trans) so the Niko & Nicola leucemia backstory doesn’t make sense, ie: Niko’s thought that if Nicole had leucemia, he should too, because they’re identical🥴

FABULOUS‼️
