What’s even more remarkable about Marlion’s journey is how this young, troubled Aboriginal kid from Western Australia ever got his chance in the first place. A story all too sadly familiar - about drugs, crime, violence and time spent in jail - but also about a life picked up piece by piece.

'Jesus Christ. I found one.' These words are blurted over the phone to Constable Snowy Lane, who is preoccupied with no more than a ham sandwich and getting a game with the East Fremantle league side on Saturday. They signal the beginning of a series of events that are to shake Perth to its foundations. It is 1979, and Perth is jumping with pub bands and overnight millionaires. 'Mr Gruesome' has just taken another victim. Snowy's life and career are to be forever changed by the grim deeds of a serial killer and the dark bloom spreading across the City of Light.

In 1999 and 2000, a number of young women go missing in the Perth suburb of Claremont. One body is discovered. Others are never seen again. Snowy Lane (City of Light) is hired as a private investigator, but neither he nor the cops can find the serial killer. Sixteen years later, another case brings Snowy to Broome, where he teams up with Dan Clement (Before It Breaks) and an incidental crime puts them back on the Claremont case.

Detective Inspector Daniel Clement is back in Broome, the tropical town where he grew up, licking his wounds from a busted marriage and struggling to be impressed by his new team of small-town, inexperienced cops. But stagnation and lethargy soon give way to a case with urgent purpose. On the edge of the desert, a man is found dead in a crocodile-infested watering hole. And he is only the first. The connection between the victims is elusive, but Clement must pursue it as a decades-old mystery begins to unravel and a monster cyclone brews on the horizon. 

1961, Philadelphia. After having to betray his brother to save his own life, hitman Blake Saunders flees the Mob and seeks refuge on the other side of the world. Though the ghosts of the past still haunt him, the tiny Australian town of Coral Shoals is paradise. Blake surfs, plays guitar and runs his own bar, the Surf Shack. But then the body of a young woman is found at a local motel , and evidence links her to the Surf Shack. It soon becomes clear to Blake - who knows a thing or two about murder - that the only way for him to protect paradise is to find the killer.

Rick Boski and Goose Gordon are small-time crims who met 20 years ago in jail in Perth, Western Australia (in the Dave Warner novel Exxxpresso). After serving his time Rick fulfilled his dream to open a prison-themed cafe (Cafe Inside) and has been extremely successful over the intervening period. Goose has done well working for mining companies and both have been on the straight and narrow.

A female air-marshal on an international fight receives a call from her HQ to inform her that there may be a bomb on board her plane. She has 15 minutes to track it down. The story unfolds in real time as she attempts to track the bomber while using any spare minute to reflect on her life. Narrated by the author Dave Warner.

Der Sensationserfolg aus Down Under - Gewinner des australischen Krimipreises 2016! Eigentlich wollte Detective Daniel Clement nie nach Broome zurückkehren. Dank seiner Exfrau ist er aber nun doch wieder hier, im australischen Nirgendwo, 2000 Kilometer entfernt von der nächsten Großstadt. Viel Zeit zum Eingewöhnen bleibt dem Detective nicht, denn in einem nahegelegenen Wasserloch wird eine Leiche entdeckt. Der zu Lebzeiten unauffällige Mann wurde brutal umgebracht - übertötet, wie man in Polizeikreisen sagt. So etwas gab es in dieser abgelegenen Gegend noch nie. Als ein zweiter Mord geschieht, scheinbar ohne jede Verbindung zum ersten, ahnt Clement, dass ihm der schwierigste Fall seiner Karriere bevorsteht.
