Story
'All men should strive to learn before they die what they are running from, and to, and why’. Rick Stein's childhood in 1950s rural Oxfordshire and North Cornwall was idyllic. His parents were charming and gregarious, their five children much-loved and given freedom typical of the time. As he grew older, the holidays were filled with loud and lively parties in his parents' Cornish barn. But ever-present was the unpredicatible mood of his bipolar father, with Rick frequently the focus of his anger and sadness. When Rick was 18 his father killed himself.

Story
Matty Matheson is known as much for his amazing food as his love for life, positive mental attitude, and epic Instagram account. This debut cookbook is about Matty’s memories of the foods that have defined who he is. With a drive to share his zest for life, he creates dishes within these pages that reinterpret the flavors of his youth in Canada, as well as the restaurant fare for which he has become so well-known. This book is like cooking alongside Matty, sharing stories that are equal parts heartwarming and inappropriate while helping you cook dishes that are full of love.

Publisher's Summary
Brought to you by Penguin.
From award-winning actor and food obsessive Stanley Tucci comes an intimate and charming memoir of life in and out of the kitchen.
Before Stanley Tucci became a household name with The Devil Wears Prada, The Hunger Games and the perfect Negroni, he grew up in an Italian American family that spent every night around the table. He shared the magic of those meals with us in The Tucci Cookbook and The Tucci Table, and now he takes us beyond the recipes and into the stories behind them.
Taste is a reflection on the intersection of food and life, filled with anecdotes about growing up in Westchester, New York, preparing for and filming the foodie films Big Night and Julie & Julia, falling in love over dinner and teaming up with his wife to create conversation-starting meals for their children. Each morsel of this gastronomic journey through good times and bad, five-star meals and burnt dishes, is as heartfelt and delicious as the last.
Written with Stanley's signature wry humour and nostalgia, Taste is a heartwarming story that will be irresistible for anyone who knows the power of a home-cooked meal.

Witty, endearing and moving!
Hearing Stanley Tucci talk about his life through food made me feel hungry and full at the same time. As a long time fan of his movies, it was no surprise that he is also a brilliant human being. I really enjoyed this book and am gifting it to many friends this Christmas.

Oh Stanley!
Such an enjoyable book, Takes you places, gives fabulous recipes and entertains. I feel I am part of the family albeit sitting on the edges. Have even dug out my copy of "Big Night" to rewatch after all these years.

What a read, what a journey! You’ll laugh, cry. Feel alive.
Honestly awesome. Re love of family, friendship, film shaped by the emotional bonds of food. This book is a trip down memory lane as a lad, struggling student, on sets as well as the many highs of life, as well as the curve balls. Excellent time recalling homemade wine & tomato sauce, smells of the fishmongers, describing various on set caterers regionally, to his wedding menu. A generous snippet into his life, loves. Not sure what comes first family or food?
However just to be sure equal parts family, Italian food, Julia childs, booze, Amalfi coast (or Normandy sausage), ice cubes in a glass. Decorate with an olive or sliced lemon, must be 5 o’clock somewhere!
Once I started I listened every day on my walks salivating over described recipes or laughing at his recollection of his experiences. Sobered by a diagnosis of cancer & overjoyed when pronounced “ all clear” or maybe that was due to that famous Canadian? Can’t wait to start again if nothing else, revisit recipes revealed. A delightful journey.

Tucci, The Great
What can I say, Stanley Tucci is one of the rare humans who seems to have the perfect attitude on life. His narration is incredibly engaging. I've always admired his cinematic work, and have gotten the sense he is very down to Earth, despite being so successful. Like we could be friends. And I feel that way especially after listening to this. I share his enthusiasm and passion for food, and I love to see how one's upbringing so individually forms one's taste, but how it doesn't stop there. Tucci beautifully tells how food is more a journey than it is a necessity. To be closed-minded with food is to miss out on so much of life's great experience. I loved hearing about his experiences while traveling, meeting new people, and inevitably accepting their ways of cooking. And how relatable were his tales of the COVID lockdowns, and equally how heartbreaking to hear of his losses and struggles. This audiobook will inspire you to cook, but moreso to appreciate food, drink, people, and the chance to enjoy them all.

Totally tasteful.
I wasn't sure when commencing listening to this book how it would turn out. Would it just be a memoir of family events? A personal selection of family recipes? Perhaps a series of dialogues peppered by notes of some moderate interest? On all counts I was completely wrong. This book was a mouth watering collection of beautifully woven stories involving Stanley's family, his work, his illness, his passion for food and his joie de vivre bonded by all of the aforementioned. I salivate as I write this review recalling his delicious recipes. I only wish that I had stopped my drive and written them down. Perhaps in the future he may consider a collection of his favourite recipes. His articulate and melodic voice just added to the experience.
