About this listen
Eve's investigation turned to the provocative world of virtual reality games - where the same techniques used to create joy and desire could also prompt the mind to become the weapon of its own destruction.
Crack another case with Eve Dallas.©2006 J.D. Robb (P)2006 Brilliance AudioSpice level: many explicit scenes.
Genre(s): crime, romantic suspense.
Overall impression: a slight break from formula compared to the earlier books in the series, readers are practically told who one of the suspects is right from the start. I was able to guess who the other suspect was too, which is a first for me - though there weren't many characters to choose from, so maybe it's not that great of a feat. Eve and Roarke's relationship was featured heavily, starting off with their honeymoon and then continuing to show them at home or at parties. I really enjoyed the romance aspect, though paired with the mind-control there were some scenes that made me a bit uncomfortable and nervous for the characters. Because of this, I didn't enjoy it as much as some of the other books - though I'm still just as excited to continue the series.

⤷ Narration:
The audiobook narrator is really good at voicing the different characters - they're easy to distinguish without being told exactly who is talking. The pacing is really good and her voice is very clear, making it easy to listen to on the train. It's the same narrator for the entire 60+ book series and I'm so excited to go on this adventure with her.

I have also started buying the audible books and have listened to the audio book version as well.
Though I am not keen on the narrator, I was able to enjoy the actual story. The narrator has better inflection and seems to be improving with separating the characters voices.
BOOK REVIEW
Such a lovely emotional read that starts showing the softer side between Eve and Roarke as they settle into married life.
Eve still gets flustered when Roarke gives her gifts.
We also get an emotionally charged murder case that abuses Eve and Roarke’s relationship that truly upsets Roarke.
The killer and how it ends was entertaining with a great twist.
Peabody is finding her balance in her role and we get some time with Mavis.
Read and reviewed paperback edition years ago but review is missing.
Really no problem to read these books again, they are always entertaining.
Roarke's Irish accent is terrible.
