About this listen

With the precision of a surgeon, a serial killer preys on the most vulnerable souls of the world's city streets. The first victim: a sidewalk sleeper, found dead in New York City. No bruises, no signs of struggle. Just a laser-perfect, fist-sized hole where his heart had once been. Lieutenant Eve Dallas is assigned to investigate. But in the heat of a cat-and-mouse game with the killer, Dallas' job is suddenly on the line. Now her hands are tied...between a struggle for justice - and a fight for her career.Crack another case with Eve Dallas.©2007 J. D. 2022 AUDIBLE REVIEW
I have also started buying the audible books and have listened to the audio book version as well.
The narrator is improving with the overall inflection, or I am getting more used to her narration style, and seems to be improving with separating the characters voices. Roarke has started to actually sound Irish and I can separate the voices of the main characters better.
BOOK REVIEW
Really enjoyed this book with Dallas losing her badge.
More stress and flashbacks from her past are coupled with a case that has Eve being put on suspension.
Loved the time with Roarke.
Lots of twists and a very smug killer.
Felt sorry for McRae and what he was put through. Want Roarke to employ him.
Just missed having Eve interview/interrogate the baddies and didn’t get to know what the killer was sentenced too.
Reading my way through these again and replacing missing reviews.

The narrator is improving with the inflections.

Lt Eve Dallas was called on a early morning to a suspicion Death. There she finds a Rookie cop and his Trainer standing around doing nothing. Lt Dallas hates that sort of sloppy Police work. Finding that the dead was missing his surgically removed heart begins an Investigation into some unusual deaths. Being removed from said Investigation later in the weeks because she was accused of killing the Trainer cop, sets Eve into steep decline
Roarke decides to help get Eve reinstated. Good Narration for this Audio.

Rating: 3.5 stars.
Spice level: some explicit scenes.
Genre(s): crime, romantic suspense.

Overall impression: this was a bit different from the earlier books in the series. In addition to having a unique murder mystery case, Eve had to navigate a workplace conflict involving a jealous cop and fabricated complaints against her conduct on investigations. Roarke was an absolute sweetheart, putting work on hold to make sure he was there for Eve while she was undergoing evaluation and suspension. And Eve learned to lean on her friends more, continuing with her character development. There were lots of parts that I enjoyed but I found myself losing interest in the murder mystery towards the end, which is why it got a lower rating from me.
