Publisher's Summary

Paul Noble is a genius with a higher IQ than Einstein. Despite this, he still struggled with language learning at school. He found himself feeling "confused, incapable, and unable to really say anything." As a result of his negative early experiences, Paul has come up with a groundbreaking new method of language teaching that removes the need for months of study. With Paul Noble, everyone really can speak a language.

Part 2 of the course covers:

  • Numbers
  • Eating out
  • Asking for directions
  • At the train station

A native-speaking German expert helps Paul to deliver the course and to perfect your pronunciation. No complicated grammatical explanations, no writing - no stress. Learn over 6,000 words in no time at all and - most importantly - learn how to make your new vocabulary work for you. A downloadable booklet is also included to use as a reference and revision tool.

Learn German with Paul Noble combines an exciting, new, nontraditional approach to language learning with the easy, relaxed appeal of an audio-only product. No books. No rote memorisation. No chance of failure.

Feels like I've been scammed!

I too ignored other customers' comments and bought Part 2, only to find absolutely no new content. Anyone that thinks there was even new vocabulary introduced are deceiving themselves... well, there wasn't!

Glad I didn't waste more money on Part 3 at least.

Simply wonderful

Really good - it built well off the first book by reinforcing content while also introducing new vocab and more advanced grammar.

Do not buy if you own part 1!

After the highly satisfying part 1, I am really disappointed to discover this part 2 contains no new material. If I was looking to review, I would have listened to part 1 again, not bought a new one. I will be asking for my money back, and will not continue this series. This is highly dishonest, even fraudulent publishing, as I'm almost sure that at least a part of this audio is the exact same recording as part 1. Shame on you!

nearly identical to part one.

Let me begin by saying that Paul Noble's course is fantastic. I still really enjoyed the teaching process he delved into in part 1. To my dismay, part 2 covers the exact same vocabulary and grammar as part 1. It seems to be the same information in a slightly more compressed format. I just don't really see the point of book two when no new information is presented.

Reader's Digest Version of Part 1 - Disappointing

I had learned from Paul Noble's "Learn Spanish" parts 1, 2 & 3, and thoroughly enjoyed all three parts; aside from learning a lot, they inspired me to go on to other Spanish sources for six full months! I hoped his "Learn German" series would do the same, and I am very disappointed.

Part 1 was conducted in the same manner as in the Spanish series. There were a few minor issues, of course, like distinguishing "dem" from "den" when it would have helped for Paul to spell out the words. But his accompanying PDF resolved those issues.

Others here had said "don't buy part 2 if you already have part 1!!" stating it was just more of the same, nothing new. Since I listen in the car while commuting, I figured it couldn't hurt to keep reviewing everything I'd learned in part 1 for a few more hours.

I HAD NOT EXPECTED TO GO BACK TO GROUND ZERO! Seriously 45 minutes into part 2, Paul says, "You may have noticed that we have different words for 'the': 'das' and 'der'." Part 2 is NOT continued review! It's just a condensed version of part 1 starting from the very beginning of part 1.

I cannot understand why Paul would stake his reputation on such a gimmick. I cannot bring myself to buy part 3; others say there's some new material but not much, and not much grammar there. I'd give his "Learn Spanish" a 5-star review for a novice, and the same for "Learn German" PART 1; but part 2 shouldn't merit even one star.

95% duplicated content with part I

Would you try another book from Paul Noble and/or Paul Noble?

Perhaps

Has Learn German with Paul Noble, Part 2 turned you off from other books in this genre?

No

What about Paul Noble’s performance did you like?

The performance is very good.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

I was very disappointed because I had high expectations after the first part of his course, which was genuinely helpful. The second part had me disappointed every single time I picked it up as it was just repeating the same content from part I. Literally the exact same parts just in different order.

5 hours of review from the first one

Almost exactly a repeat of content from the first book. But I did feel it was useful because it reviewed some of the harder parts like when ein and einer change because of being a victim in the situation or by using with (mit) or after (nach). 5 hours of practice or less than $2 per hour is a good deal for me. I do wish it would give us more vocabulary though. But I clearly see the purpose is to create sentences and understand sentence structure.

Don't buy this one if you have part one...

Any additional comments?

Part 2 of this series is completely contained within part one, so I am not sure what the marketing strategy is here. I think it should be explained how to order the audiobooks so that you are not paying for the same thing twice...duh!

I am new to German and found that Part 1 is an excellent start.

Fun but tougher

This moved at a good pace. Eventually got to a point where I needed to go back and listen a few times to really feel comfortable. Good practice for longer more complex sentences. I really enjoyed it.

Good stuff

It was very repetitive, however that is the point. It practically guarantees that you will learn what there teaching and what they are teaching is essential as a base to german Grammer. I have recommended Paul Noble after the first book and will continue after this one.

Nothing new compared to part one

Would you try another book written by Paul Noble or narrated by Paul Noble?

I would be nervous of purchasing any more from Paul Noble unless I could establish that I was going to learn something new.

Would you ever listen to anything by Paul Noble again?

His teaching method is sound, if a tad basic and slow. I have polished up my French and started German from scratch with him. You do need to top up with learning vocab from other sources, however. But he does explain basic grammar well.

What about Paul Noble’s performance did you like?

Unlike other language courses, he doesn't overwhelm you with 20 news words a minute, 98% of which you are likely to forget.

You didn’t love this book--but did it have any redeeming qualities?

Not really, no. Part one was excellent, but this is a big disappointment.

Any additional comments?

Don't waste your money on this - there is absolutely nothing in it that isn't covered in his part one of learning German, in fact part one will take you further. I listened to the entire book thinking "yes, yes, we've done all this, bring on the new stuff" but it just never came.... this would be better entitled 'Paul Noble Revision book to Part One'

If you have part 1, don't buy part 2

Would you try another book written by Paul Noble or narrated by Paul Noble?

I am going to return this book for a refund, if I can. I enjoyed Part 1 and thought Part 2 will pick it up where Part 1 left it, but to my surprise Part 2's material repeats Part 1, but plays it in less time. So I really wonder, why someone needs to pay more money to buy Part 2 (which costs more than Part 1) to hear exactly same material? Description of the book says nothing about material's 100% overlap with Part 1 book. I think description should say so that to avoid deception and false expectations.

What was most disappointing about Paul Noble’s story?

Part 2's material repeats Part 1, so I really wonder, why someone needs to Part 2 if he/she already owns Part 1? And why it is called Part 2, if it doesn't continue to build on knowledge obtained in Part 1? Description of the book says nothing about material's 100% overlap with Part 1 book. I think description should say so that to avoid deception and false expectations.

How could the performance have been better?

If the Book is called Part 2, it should teach more advanced material than Part 1. Paul Noble published 4 parts for German language course, but after my negative experience with Part 2, I am not going to buy Part 3 because I am afraid there will be nothing new there. I would expect more from Part 2 and Part 3, particularly more new words and more advanced material, more complex sentences. I think the Paul's method is good, but he should not stop at the very basics and take his method to more advanced students.

This is mis-sold

If this book wasn’t for you, who do you think might enjoy it more?

I purchased Learn German with Paul Noble 1 and it was fantastic, so I purchased the 2nd one in the Learn German trilogy. This is just a complete repeat of everything in the first one. No new learning material whatsoever-what a disappointment

What was most disappointing about Paul Noble’s story?

It's the same as the content in the First course, only condensed to 4 hours rather than the original 12 hours

Any additional comments?

I think this should be withdrawn from sale

It's true. The content is a repeat of part one, but with less covered. I can't even say I found it a useful recap, as it skips tenses. Just get part one.

repeat of first book

Having been very impressed with the first book I'm left feeling very disappointed and cheated with book 2, there was very little vocabulary expansion. Most of the conversations were repeats from book 1 or sentences told in a slightly different way. Just replay book one instead of buying this.

Enjoyable learning experience

I knew hardly a word of German when I took lessons one and two but now feel I have a good basic grasp of the language and I'm looking forward to trying to speak when I visit Germany soon. Paul Noble is a wonderful teacher and his German assistant spoke clearly and beautifully. I can't wait to begin lesson 3. My only disappointment is that the course doesn't continue after that.

A lot of listening for the price

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would recommend it and other people on my German course are also using this series as extra material.

What did you like best about this story?

This is a very long listen for the price. Basics and different method to what most courses will use. Let's you practice while commuting or doing the housework so you can squeeze some extra in when your brain would otherwise be inactive.

What does Paul Noble bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

Paul's audiobook is clearly designed to be used as an audio tool and is not an adaptation of a text book. The teaching methodology is based on hearing and speaking. The accompanying text file is supplementary material the audio is stand alone.

Any additional comments?

Book 1 and Book 2 are good if you have nearly no knowledge of the language. (Also a good refresher if you did the most basic level and are heading back to study and need a refresher).
