Publisher's Summary
When a mother is angry, she demonstrates meekness by handling her kid softly rather than dragging it around and screaming at them both. An adolescent boy's display of meekness can be observed when he chooses not to access an explicit website that comes up on his computer. When someone is being disciplined, meekness can be demonstrated when they choose not to become hostile or defensive but instead remain receptive and teachable.
Whom we commit our will to, and whether we do so in service to God or to ourselves, sheds light on the kind of people we are. When you constantly surrender control of your life over to God, the promise of this beatitude is that your life will turn into a delight.
People who are mentally or emotionally impoverished: They are aware that they have nothing apart from God to rely on. Those who are saddened: They experience a profound conviction of the wickedness of their lives and are overcome by the kindness and grace of God.
Given all of this, it's hard to imagine someone who wouldn't willingly hand over control of their intellect, will, and body to this God. When was it that man was happiest? During the time that he spent in the Garden of Eden. There, he lived under God's dominion, and all of his requirements and wants were satisfied on that level. When he made the decision to no longer submit his life to God's authority, he forfeited that. There was once a period when man knew the joy and contentment of his existence. Because of the connection he had with his maker, his spirit was filled with joy and satisfaction.
If we will simply submit to Jesus' authority, is it possible that he will lead us back to the path that led to Eden? God loves you. He desires to bestow everlasting life. However, the issue at hand is your sin. It is necessary for him to punish you for your transgression because he is a holy and just god. Jesus is the solution that God has provided for your struggle with sin. He willingly carried out your retribution by dying on the cross.
