The Gods split the skies and rained down tyranny upon the mortal realm long ago. Ever since then, the only thing worse than being human is being of Divine Blood. For someone like me—an undocumented God child, indebted to the Underworld Assassination Guild—that means only one thing: A life in the shadows. Or so it should have been . . . until Mortal Gods Academy. Until them.

I am not a chosen of the Gods, but a bloody tragedy of their choices. I have endured worse than the Darkhavens. Torture. Pain. Manipulation. There is nothing anyone can do to me that I have not already done to myself. Ruen's betrayal will not break me. Despite the punishment I receive, my goal remains the same: Find the target. Terminate them. Free myself from the Underworld Assassination Guild. It doesn't matter if I let a single night of weakness bind me to one of them. I can't let it matter. They're all guilty in my eyes.

Forced to the dangerous Ortus Island and the very first Mortal Gods Academy, I know that time is running out for both me and the Darkhavens. If we can't figure out what the Gods are planning and how to stop them, it's no longer just our lives on the line. It's the lives of every Mortal God in existence.
