The world of Densun has become so corrupt that Heaven has chosen an atheist criminal to protect it. Alex Talos believes in little he cannot see, a view reinforced by the abuse that filled all 16 years of his life. In this sequel to One Step Toward Divinity, Alex Talos wants a break. He volunteered his services to become the Holy Protector to eat, not because he understood or respected the responsibilities of the job. After an exhausting month of traveling around his island and fighting against three fantastical creatures that he didn't think could possibly exist, he needs rest. Unfortunately, as Alex and his companions enter a quaint hamlet, one nameless sorcerer appears and burns the town to its foundations with only a thought and a snap of his fingers.
