More than a century ago, Earth was suffering under the weight of overpopulation and ever-dwindling resources. Humanity’s best and brightest were commissioned to create a means to escape the overcrowding of Earth, and to branch out and live among the stars. Their efforts were hampered by the seeming impossibility of faster-than-light travel, until a team of researchers discovers an usual answer they call “the Lightrail”. On the eve of Earth’s first successful jaunt to the stars, however, a powerful organization called Earth First commits a horrible act of terrorism.

It's been more than a century since humanity escaped the overpopulation of Earth, expanding out among the stars. We've faced and overcome war with an alien race. We've survived terrorist attacks meant to end colonization. We've thrived despite unregulated class distinctions, separating the wealthy from the working class. What comes next may be the end of it all.

Against all odds, on an unchartered world, the souls of First Colony have been restored to life, and a centuries-old wrong has been righted - sort of. On the planet's surface, a young woman struggles to reclaim her mind from the strange aftereffects of the cancellation wave. High above, the struggling colony's last hope of going home slowly falls from orbit, and two men face death to prevent it.

The Citadel tower stands in ruins, while hundreds lie injured or dead. On distant Earth, a powerful madman prepares to seize control of the lightrail, in a move that will change the fate of humanity and the Esool alike. All hope rests with a new species - represented by a young boy with unknown intentions and unlimited power. Will he be the savior of the colonies, or just speed up their destruction?
