The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet: Booktrack Edition adds an immersive musical soundtrack to your audiobook listening experience!

SHORTLISTED FOR THE BAILEY'S WOMEN'S PRIZE FOR FICTION

The beloved debut novel that will restore your faith in humanity

When Rosemary Harper joins the crew of the Wayfarer, she isn't expecting much. The ship, which has seen better days, offers her everything she could possibly want: a small, quiet spot to call home for a while, adventure in far-off corners of the galaxy, and distance from her troubled past.

But Rosemary gets more than she bargained for with the Wayfarer. The crew is a mishmash of species and personalities, from Sissix, the friendly reptillian pilot, to Kizzy and Jenks, the constantly sparring engineers who keep the ship running. Life on board is chaotic, but more or less peaceful - exactly what Rosemary wants.

Until the crew are offered the job of a lifetime: the chance to build a hyperspace tunnel to a distant planet. They'll earn enough money to live comfortably for years... if they survive the long trip through war-torn interstellar space without endangering any of the fragile alliances that keep the galaxy peaceful.

But Rosemary isn't the only person on board with secrets to hide, and the crew will soon discover that space may be vast, but spaceships are very small indeed.

Booktrack is an immersive format that pairs traditional audiobook narration and complementary music. The tempo and rhythm of the score are in perfect harmony with the action and characters throughout the audiobook. Gently playing in the background, the music never overpowers or distracts from the narration so that listeners can enjoy every minute. When you purchase this Booktrack edition, you receive the exact narration as the traditional audiobook available, with the addition of music throughout.

Critic Reviews

An action-adventure space opera . . . It is a quietly profound, humane tour de force that tackles politics and gender issues with refreshing optimism
A real treat to read . . . Easily the most fun that I've had with a novel in a long, long time. This is space opera that's not to be missed
A joyous, optimistic space opera . . . A heart-warming debut novel that will restore your faith in science fiction (specifically) and humanity (in general)
One of the most enjoyable, brilliantly realised spacey SF novels I've read in ages.
By far the best sci-fi I've read in a long time: something genuinely different, inclusive and compassionate
One of the most delightful novels science-fiction that I've read in recent years
A huge amount of space-opera-y fun, with some interestingly nuanced perspectives on gender woven into the whole
The Long Way is, very simply, an extremely good book, a seemingly effortless demonstration of how progressive and enjoyable science fiction can be
Becky Chambers writes aliens like no one else ... the only flaw in this series is you'll wish you could spend more time with all of them

A wonderful story filled with amazing characters, the book track version of this story adds an extra layer to this already captivating tale of friendship and adventure. Take a spin with the crew of the wayfarer, you won't regret it.

Excellent

Generally good as a book to pass the time, however didn’t really dig into the subject matter. Almost like watching a soap opera- pleasant, but didn’t grab me.

Asked a lot of interesting questions of the human condition & culture

The music and sounds effects are completely enthralling and really helped build the Wayfarer universe. I can’t imagine listening to an audiobook without the added audio effects now.

Completely immersing

I've read this book before and loved it so liked the idea of listening to it. Unfortunately I didn't enjoy the audio book as much as I should have.
First I was aware of a number of reading errors; most notably the word "artigrav" which appears throughout the book, was consistently read as "antigrav" which completely changes the meaning and doesn't make sense.
Secondly the narrator's voice was too soothing which made it hard to stay awake when I was listening at night.
I still enjoyed it. It's a grest story and over all the reading is very good.

Wonderful story but

I love this book so much, everyone in it is so nice and caring about eachother - I don't care if it's unrealistic for a story - I'm sick of stories where people don't sort their problems out by talking or by getting along. This is my favourite audiobook of all time.

It is elevated so much by the narration of Patricia - giving so much character to everyone in the story.

I listen to this book to calm down or if I want to cry.

I've listened to this almost 50 times
