The Chosen One is Late on RentKav leads a platoon of war machines known as Avatars, 20 meter tall mecha fashioned from the bodies of dead gods. You don't just pilot them. You are the machine. Once merged with the magitech core you see through its eyes, and you are immune to the petty magics of mortal mages. You become a god.

The catch? You don't own your ride. You rent it from the Inuran Consortium, and they have ways of keeping you indebted. You accept any and all missions without question. Failure means joining the ranks of the unbonded, and sold to debtors prison.

Kav is horribly outnumbered by necromancers fielding Avatars of their own. They cannot be reasoned with. Their motives are unclear, but nothing survives their passing. They're even worse worse than the Draconic Alliance, which are also hunting him. Somehow he must outwit both.

Yet larger events are at play. Something terrible slumbers within the heart of the asteroid he must defend, and if it wakes a dark goddess will once again plunge the entire galaxy into war, a name not whispered for ten thousand years...
