About this listen
Battle mage or magical engineer? Easy choice, right? Engineer, obviously.
I'm Charisma Carter, tech genius and nerd extraordinaire. I actually used to be Charisma Silverstorm, member of one of the six elite Arcane Families, until my family shunned me when I turned 18 because my magic wasn't strong enough. However, where I lack in magic I more than make up for with the tech I develop, if I do say so myself. Apparently I'm not the only one.
From the minute I received my diploma as a magical engineer, it seems like my world has turned upside down. Now, members of all six families are competing to get me to work for them. They're willing to use anything...from bribes to charm. It's not enough that the heirs to Arcane are walking sex gods, they also have a lot of money and exceptional magical skills.
As our paths intertwine, I have to try to stay true to who I am, who I've always been, and not succumb to their charms. But how can a girl resist when the future she always dreamed of is right at her fingertips?
This book is a reverse-harem romance intended for adult audiences.
©2021 T.S. Snow (P)2021 Podium AudioStory about a girl awesome at everything, wanted by everyone, blah, blah blah. Yet somehow she's still a missfit. Eh.
Finished on a huge cliffhanger yet I truly couldn't care less.
This one wasn't for me - not the target audience.
Writing was polished enough and female narrator was good.

The male narrator sound like an A.I.
This book has the subtlety of a mace. Immature and gross.
I quit 1/2 way through, which was 1/2 way too far.
Blunt force trauma

I have other books featuring Tristan James, but tjis one is by far his worse performance. He was rather flat, like really flat. There was minimal emotion, but he was not given much to go by in order to bring out the personalities of the male characters. (this is a big negative due to the authors lack of investment on the male characters; 70% of the book is told from the female POV)
Needless to say, since this book is majority female POV, Aletha George was a big fat NO on this one. Her tone was bad, she was horrible at pronouncing Bastille's name (She pronounced it Bah-still-lay ... ), and when she depicted the male characters, there was little to no effort that every chapter made me cringe. How embarrassing and a big let down to readers that the author didn't proof the audio to make sure that character names were at least pronounced correctly. I sped up the audio to get through the book to see how the story would unfold.
I wanted to like this book. The main character's meant to be quirky, a little bit of an underdog, clumsy, but somehow badass. The world concept wasn't half bad either especially since the author was trying to merge magic and technology. I just wish she put more effort into actual character development. Instead of going on and on about how clumsy the FMC is, maybe spend time on expanding the MMC's personality traits. If they weren't mentioned by name, you wouldn't be able to tell the difference between the different guys.
If the books weren't included in KU, I wouldn't continue on with the series.
do not get the audio, it ruined the story...
