Starting off with one of the worst tenants I have ever encountered, it was extremely difficult getting him to leave and the long evection process didn't help. While we were in the middle of escrow the city shuts us down for doing construction. Then they make us pull permits and 13 months later we are still in escrow! There are many reasons why rents keep going up, in this podcast I highlight why rent control was not a good idea. After COVID-19 we saw a rampant raise in inflation. We also began to see new laws, such as rent control begin to surge across different markets. California and New York were two major states that began to see rent control enacted. Due to these new laws, landlords that had not raised rents in many years began to raise rents to keep up with inflation but most importantly, to not be affected by these new laws.
