• 45. 7 Steps to Effective Leadership
    Jun 5 2024

Today, we’re diving deep into one of the foundational pillars of wealth building: leadership. For many of us on this journey, leadership isn’t just about guiding ourselves—it’s about leading our families, our businesses, and the people within those businesses.

In this episode, we explore the intricacies of leadership and the challenges that come with it. Whether you’re leading your own path or guiding others, the journey is filled with trials and tribulations. Our experiences as operating principals of a franchised brokerage have shown us firsthand the complexities of leadership.

We’ll share our thoughts and stories about leading others. We'll discuss how leaders face both praise and criticism, often from the same people, and how to navigate these ups and downs with resilience.

  • 44. Being a 30 Under 30 Finalist: Moti Shiferaw & Isaiah Hazward
    May 29 2024

It’s rare for two real estate professionals from the same area and same brokerage to be named as REALTOR Magazine’s 30 under 30 Rising Stars finalists. But once you meet Moti Shiferaw and Isaiah Hazward, you realize they are truly special people.

Moti and Isaiah join us on today’s episode. We learn about their backgrounds and motivations. Moti comes from an Ethiopian immigrant family who never owned their own home, which is why he now specializes in working with that community to help folks achieve home ownership. Isaiah’s parents were contractors– by the time he signed up for his real estate license at the age of 19, he already knew the developments in the DMV and Baltimore area like the back of his hand.

These young men share with us wisdom beyond their years: How they handle adversity, build their businesses, and connect the black community to home ownership. Take a listen and know that the future of real estate is in good hands.

    May 22 2024

“Go make friends” is the number one item on Rob Chavez’s and Justin Myers’ to-do list every day. Rob is the Founder and Justin is the Director of Expansion for the GRID Network. They join us today for a conversation about the importance of relationship-building among agents and real estate investors.

GRID stands for Grow your network, Relationships transform lives, Invest in people and assets, and Develop leaders and build wealth. What started out as Rob meeting up with five likeminded people has grown to a network of 30,000 people across 40 different cities. Today, GRID is a broker-agnostic community that puts agents at the center of real estate investment conversations.

We have a great discussion with Rob and Justin about the power of “being in the right room.” We also talk about how real estate agents, no matter where they are in their journey, need to grow their leadership capabilities. Plus we touch on long term investments and turning cash machines into wealth machines.

There’s nothing like a good conversation with folks who understand the power of community and real estate to close the wealth gap in America. Enjoy our chat with Rob and Justin!

  • 42. Generational Wealth as a Strategy with Dr. Pamela Jolly
    May 15 2024

Everyone receives inheritances, and everyone leaves some kind of inheritance, even if those inheritances are not financial in nature.

Today, our guest is Dr. Pamela Jolly, a wealth strategist who specializes in legacy wealth. She explains that legacy is about understanding who and what we have inherited and how we can choose what inheritance we leave behind.

Dr. Jolly also explains that generational wealth is a strategy. It is where you, as a family business, determine how you will create, build, grow, and expand wealth as you define it. She talks about the unique challenges each generation faces in continuing that strategy and how to get past them.

Real estate, as Dr. Jolly points out, is one of the key components of generational wealth. Ownership is the foundation of inheritance, and home ownership is one of the most important kinds.

Join us in this episode to soak up all of Dr. Jolly’s knowledge and wisdom, including her 12 steps to build wealth your way.

  • 41. Buyer Representation for Homebuyers with Patricia Long
    May 8 2024

Worried about how you’re going to earn your buyer commission after the Sitzer-Burnett lawsuit ruling? You definitely aren’t alone. But Patricia Long, broker and co-owner of Keller Williams Preferred Properties, is here to talk us through it.

On one level, nothing has really changed. You should have already been requesting your client sign a buyers’ agreement that says they will pay you if the seller does not. You should have already been showcasing your value and going above-and-beyond for your clients.

On another level, this could be devastating for first-time home buyers who can barely afford the down payment, but can’t afford to pay the buyer commission out of pocket. These buyers are often black. They will likely either be left behind, taken advantage of, or not catered to.

So what can we do? Tune in to hear Patricia’s advice on engaging politically, fine-tuning your value proposition, and doubling down on relationship-building.

  • 39. Building Blocks: Real Estate, Community and Impact with Harrison Beacher
    Apr 24 2024

The fundamental building blocks for growing a real estate company and impacting a community are the same. Harrison Beacher from the Coalition Properties Group joins the show today to explain how.

Harrison’s company has served over 1,700 families for $650 million in sales volume in the DC metro area since 2019. During that time, they’ve also facilitated over $1 million in charitable contributions. How has he managed to do so much for the community while also building a super successful business? He explains that real estate sales and building relationships in the community overlap well, if you are generous and selfless.

Harrison’s three building blocks are: First, learn about your community and reach out to people. Second, get to know them and what they need. Third, provide them what they need. Those building blocks work for lead generation as well as helping nonprofits with your time, talent, and treasure.

If you have a head for business and a heart for impacting the world for good, you’re going to find a lot of useful information this episode.
