• Three Prayers by St. Augustine of Hippo
    Aug 25 2025
    Support the ShowTranscript: Happy Monday, everyone. We’re starting off the week with these three prayers penned by the great theologian and philosopher St. Augustine of Hippo. PRAYER TO THE HOLY SPIRITBreathe in me, O Holy Spirit, that my thoughts may all be holy. Act in me, O Holy Spirit, that my work, too, may be holy. Draw my heart, O Holy Spirit, that I love but what is holy. Strengthen me, O Holy Spirit, to defend all that is holy. Guard me, then, O Holy Spirit, that I always may be holy. PRAYER TO SEEK GOD CONTINUALLYO Lord my God, I believe in you, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Insofar as I can, insofar as you have given me the power, I have sought you. I became weary and I labored. O Lord my God, my sole hope, help me to believe and never to cease seeking you. Grant that I may always and ardently seek out your countenance. Give me the strength to seek you, for you help me to find you and you have more and more given me the hope of finding you. Here I am before you with my firmness and my infirmity. Preserve the first and heal the second. Here I am before you with my strength and my ignorance. Where you have opened the door to me, welcome me at the entrance; where you have closed the door to me, open to my cry; enable me to remember you, to understand you, and to love you. Amen.PRAYER OF TRUST IN GOD'S HEAVENLY PROMISEMy God, let me know and love you, so that I may find my happiness in you. Since I cannot fully achieve this on earth, help me to improve daily until I may do so to the full Enable me to know you ever more on earth, so that I may know you perfectly in heaven. Enable me to love you ever more on earth, so that I may love you perfectly in heaven. In that way my joy may be great on earth, and perfect with you in heaven. O God of truth, grant me the happiness of heaven so that my joy may be full in accord with your promise. In the meantime let my mind dwell on that happiness, my tongue speak of it, my heart pine for it, my mouth pronounce it, my soul hunger for it, my flesh thirst for it, and my entire being desire it until I enter through death in the joy of my Lord forever. Amen.I hope one or all of these ancient prayers from one of Christianity’s heavy hitters resonates with you deeply as you go about your week. Transcript:

    Good morning, it is August 22, 2025. Here are today’s stories:

    1. Satellite images reveal North Korea is operating a covert missile base 17 miles from China’s border, capable of launching missiles that could reach the U.S. mainland. The site’s proximity to China raises concerns about potential miscalculations among nuclear powers in northeast Asia. This development heightens tensions in a region already fraught with military complexities.

    2. Asian markets showed mixed responses on Thursday as investors awaited U.S. Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell’s Friday speech, following uncertainty from recent inflation data. Oil prices rose after a decline in U.S. crude stockpiles, while markets fluctuated due to hopes for a Ukraine peace deal after President Trump’s meeting with Vladimir Putin. The anticipation underscores ongoing global economic and diplomatic volatility.

    3. U.S. unemployment benefit applications for the week ending August 16 increased by 11,000 to 235,000, slightly above the 229,000 forecasted by economists, per the Labor Department. Despite layoffs remaining low historically, the labor market shows signs of weakening, with only 73,000 jobs added in July and a revised loss of 258,000 jobs for May and June, pushing the unemployment rate to 4.2%.

    4. Dr. James Dobson, founder of Focus on the Family and a prominent Christian leader who advised five U.S. presidents, died at 89 yesterday morning, according to the Dr. James Dobson Family Institute. A psychologist, Dobson was a highly influential figure in American Christianity over the past 50 years. His passing marks the end of a significant era for the evangelical community.

  • Trump Economy Woes, AI in Canadian Schools, Hamas Ceasefire, and Ukraine-NATO Tensions
    Aug 21 2025
    Support the ShowTranscript: Good morning, everyone. Thanks for tuning in. It’s August 21, 2025. Here are the headlines we’re praying about today.1. A June 25, 2025, Clever Offers survey of 1,000 Americans reveals widespread pessimism halfway through President Trump’s second term, with only 31% feeling financially better off and 38% believing the U.S. economy is on the right track. Sweeping changes in economic and social policies, along with increased government spending, have fueled uncertainty. Consumers are feeling significant economic pressure as a result.2. Canadian universities are integrating generative AI into teaching plans as students and instructors increasingly adopt the technology. Providing AI tools through university IT systems helps mitigate privacy risks and ensures data protection. The Canadian Alliance of Student Associations stresses that AI should enhance learning but warns that untested systems risk introducing bias and discrimination against certain student groups.3. On Monday, Hamas accepted a U.S.-backed ceasefire proposal, agreeing to release 10 living hostages and 18 bodies in two phases, leaving 22 hostages in captivity, while Israel would free 150 Palestinian prisoners and halt fighting for 60 days, abandoning plans to occupy Gaza City. The deal paves the way for permanent ceasefire talks. However, President Trump’s call for Israel to escalate attacks against Hamas sparked protests from over 200,000 Israelis concerned for hostages and civilians.4. On Wednesday, two German Eurofighter Typhoon jets were deployed from a Romanian air base to monitor Russian missile and drone attacks on Ukraine near the NATO border. The attacks targeted oil and port facilities in Ukraine’s Odesa region, close to Romania, but no Russian projectiles crossed into NATO territory. Despite recent talks between Presidents Putin and Trump, Russia’s bombardment of Ukraine continues.Let’s prayThank you for listening to News on Knees, a community prayer podcast by Story King Media. • Trump Assassination Plot, Ukraine Policy, Slow Housing Market, Pakistan Floods, and Hurricane Erin
    Aug 19 2025
    Support the ShowTranscript: Good afternoon, everyone. Today is August 19, 2025. Here are the stories we’re praying about today: 1. On August 15, U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro announced the arrest of a woman who traveled from New York to Washington, D.C., for allegedly plotting to assassinate President Donald Trump. The suspect, identified as "nath.jones" on social media, posted threats calling Trump a "terrorist" and "Nazi," blaming him for Covid-19 deaths, according to authorities. U.S. Secret Service agents intercepted her, and she now faces federal charges for threatening the president’s life.2. President Trump, in a Tuesday "Fox & Friends" interview, firmly ruled out deploying U.S. troops to Ukraine as part of security guarantees, emphasizing no "American boots on the ground." He expressed a commitment to preventing casualties and suggested potential air protection support. Trump’s stance reflects his broader aim to limit U.S. military involvement abroad while addressing Ukraine’s ongoing conflict.3. High home prices and economic uncertainty led to the slowest July housing market in a decade, with homes staying on the market for an average of 43 days, up from 35 days last year, per Redfin data. The prolonged time reflects buyer hesitation amid financial pressures.4. Devastating floods in northwest Pakistan have left over 150 people missing, with 194 deaths reported in the last 24 hours, bringing the total to 390, including 288 men, 59 children, and 43 women. The ongoing crisis highlights the severe impact of extreme weather on the region. Rescue efforts continue to locate survivors amidst widespread destruction.5. Hurricane Erin is generating dangerous rip currents and high surf along the U.S. East Coast, with destructive waves and storm surge expected to soon hit North Carolina’s Outer Banks. The Atlantic hurricane season is intensifying, with potential for another named storm to follow. Coastal communities are bracing for significant impacts from these life-threatening conditions.So let’s pray…Thank you for listening to News on Knees, a community prayer podcast by Story King Media. Transcript:

    Good morning, everyone. Thank you for tuning in. Today, I’m reciting an English translation of a Prayer for Peace, attributed to the famous Catholic friar St. Francis of Assisi.

    Prayer:

    Lord, make me an instrument of Your peace:
    Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
    Where there is injury, pardon;
    Where there is doubt, faith;
    Where there is despair, hope;
    Where there is darkness, light;
    Where there is sadness, joy.

    O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek
    To be consoled as to console,
    To be understood as to understand,
    To be loved as to love.
    For it is in giving that we receive,
    It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
    And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

    Amen.

    I hope this prayer blesses you. Have a great rest of your week.

  • Meta’s AI Risks, AI Antibiotics Breakthrough, Brain-Tech Race, China and Japan's WWII Tensions, and Delbarton Abuse
    Aug 15 2025
    Support the ShowHappy Friday, everyone. Thanks for tuning in. Today is August 15, 2025. Here are today’s stories:Starting with some AI headlines…1. A Reuters review of a 200-page Meta Platforms document revealed that Meta’s AI chatbots are allowed to engage children in inappropriate sensual conversations and spread false medical information, following CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s push for more engaging outputs. The document, approved by Meta’s legal, policy, and ethics teams, permitted chatbots to make unsettling remarks to minors and controversial racial claims. Meta’s spokesperson acknowledged enforcement inconsistencies and removed problematic examples involving minors, amid concerns that teens’ heavy AI use could lead to social withdrawal.2. On August 14, 2025, MIT researchers unveiled two AI-designed antibiotics targeting drug-resistant gonorrhoea and MRSA, addressing the critical lack of new antibiotics since the 1980s. By analyzing 36 million compounds, the AI created novel molecules that proved effective in lab and mouse tests. While Professor James Collins highlighted AI’s potential to rapidly expand antibiotic options, experts note that safety testing and economic hurdles could delay clinical use for years.3. OpenAI’s Sam Altman is supporting Merge Labs, a startup developing brain-computer interfaces to compete with Elon Musk’s Neuralink, while Mark Zuckerberg focuses on accessible AI superintelligence via wearable glasses. Merge Labs aims to advance neural technology, positioning itself as a rival in the growing brain-computer interface market. This development reflects a broader race in AI-driven innovation among tech leaders.4. In international news, China and Japan mark World War II’s end on different dates—China with military displays on September 3 and Japan with solemn ceremonies on August 15—highlighting historical tensions. Japan’s occupation of China, which killed an estimated 20 million people, continues to strain relations, exacerbated by ongoing territorial disputes. These contrasting commemorations underscore deep-rooted historical and geopolitical divides.5. Lastly, a recent court decision may expose clergy abuse allegations at New Jersey’s elite Delbarton school, spotlighting Auxiliary Bishop Elias R. Lorenzo, a potential successor to Newark’s Cardinal. At least 30 students reported sexual abuse by Benedictine monks during Lorenzo’s 30-year tenure as a teacher and clergy leader at the all-boys Catholic school. The Survivors Network of those Abused By Priests detailed severe abuse claims, raising concerns as Lorenzo is considered for higher church leadership.Let’s pray…Thank you for listening to News on Knees, a community prayer podcast by Story King Media. • Trump’s D.C. Police Takeover, Inflation Holds at 2.7%, Colorado Wildfire Evacuations, and Myanmar Atrocities
    Aug 12 2025
    Support the ShowTranscript: Good morning, listeners. Thanks for tuning in. Here are the headlines for today:1. President Donald Trump announced on Monday that he is assuming control of Washington, D.C.'s police department and deploying 800 National Guard members to curb crime rates. Surrounded by his Attorney General, Defense Secretary, and FBI Director, Trump declared a public safety emergency to justify the measures. The administration also intends to dismantle homeless encampments as part of broader efforts to enhance urban security.2. The Bureau of Labor Statistics revealed on Monday that consumer prices rose 2.7% in July, consistent with June's inflation rate. This steady increase is occurring against a backdrop of worries over tariffs that could further drive up costs. The data underscores ongoing economic challenges and potential impacts on household budgets amid global trade tensions.3. The Colorado Department of Corrections fully evacuated 179 inmates from the Rifle Correctional Center on Sunday due to the advancing Lee Fire in Rio Blanco County. By Monday, the fire had consumed over 110,000 acres, positioning it as the fifth-largest wildfire in Colorado's recorded history. A complex incident management team is coordinating the response to contain the blaze and ensure public safety.4. UN-supported investigators have reported allegations of torture and sexual crimes occurring in Myanmar's detention centers. The probe targets perpetrators from security forces, militias, and armed groups, with the goal of building cases for prosecution. These findings point to a surge in human rights abuses since the 2021 military coup, exacerbating the nation's civil war.Thank you for listening to News on Knees, a community prayer podcast by Story King Media.
