    Support the ShowTranscript: Happy Monday, everyone. We’re starting off the week with these three prayers penned by the great theologian and philosopher St. Augustine of Hippo. PRAYER TO THE HOLY SPIRITBreathe in me, O Holy Spirit, that my thoughts may all be holy. Act in me, O Holy Spirit, that my work, too, may be holy. Draw my heart, O Holy Spirit, that I love but what is holy. Strengthen me, O Holy Spirit, to defend all that is holy. Guard me, then, O Holy Spirit, that I always may be holy. PRAYER TO SEEK GOD CONTINUALLYO Lord my God, I believe in you, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Insofar as I can, insofar as you have given me the power, I have sought you. I became weary and I labored. O Lord my God, my sole hope, help me to believe and never to cease seeking you. Grant that I may always and ardently seek out your countenance. Give me the strength to seek you, for you help me to find you and you have more and more given me the hope of finding you. Here I am before you with my firmness and my infirmity. Preserve the first and heal the second. Here I am before you with my strength and my ignorance. Where you have opened the door to me, welcome me at the entrance; where you have closed the door to me, open to my cry; enable me to remember you, to understand you, and to love you. Amen.PRAYER OF TRUST IN GOD'S HEAVENLY PROMISEMy God, let me know and love you, so that I may find my happiness in you. Since I cannot fully achieve this on earth, help me to improve daily until I may do so to the full Enable me to know you ever more on earth, so that I may know you perfectly in heaven. Enable me to love you ever more on earth, so that I may love you perfectly in heaven. In that way my joy may be great on earth, and perfect with you in heaven. O God of truth, grant me the happiness of heaven so that my joy may be full in accord with your promise. In the meantime let my mind dwell on that happiness, my tongue speak of it, my heart pine for it, my mouth pronounce it, my soul hunger for it, my flesh thirst for it, and my entire being desire it until I enter through death in the joy of my Lord forever.     1. Satellite images reveal North Korea is operating a covert missile base 17 miles from China’s border, capable of launching missiles that could reach the U.S. mainland. The site’s proximity to China raises concerns about potential miscalculations among nuclear powers in northeast Asia. This development heightens tensions in a region already fraught with military complexities.


    2. Asian markets showed mixed responses on Thursday as investors awaited U.S. Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell’s Friday speech, following uncertainty from recent inflation data. Oil prices rose after a decline in U.S. crude stockpiles, while markets fluctuated due to hopes for a Ukraine peace deal after President Trump’s meeting with Vladimir Putin. The anticipation underscores ongoing global economic and diplomatic volatility.


    3. U.S. unemployment benefit applications for the week ending August 16 increased by 11,000 to 235,000, slightly above the 229,000 forecasted by economists, per the Labor Department. Despite layoffs remaining low historically, the labor market shows signs of weakening, with only 73,000 jobs added in July and a revised loss of 258,000 jobs for May and June, pushing the unemployment rate to 4.2%.


    4. Dr. James Dobson, founder of Focus on the Family and a prominent Christian leader who advised five U.S. presidents, died at 89 yesterday morning, according to the Dr. James Dobson Family Institute. A June 25, 2025, Clever Offers survey of 1,000 Americans reveals widespread pessimism halfway through President Trump’s second term, with only 31% feeling financially better off and 38% believing the U.S. economy is on the right track. Sweeping changes in economic and social policies, along with increased government spending, have fueled uncertainty. Consumers are feeling significant economic pressure as a result.2. Canadian universities are integrating generative AI into teaching plans as students and instructors increasingly adopt the technology. Providing AI tools through university IT systems helps mitigate privacy risks and ensures data protection. The Canadian Alliance of Student Associations stresses that AI should enhance learning but warns that untested systems risk introducing bias and discrimination against certain student groups.3. On Monday, Hamas accepted a U.S.-backed ceasefire proposal, agreeing to release 10 living hostages and 18 bodies in two phases, leaving 22 hostages in captivity, while Israel would free 150 Palestinian prisoners and halt fighting for 60 days, abandoning plans to occupy Gaza City.
