    Jan 6 2023

Aphantasia is the inability to visualize imagery, which makes it hard for me to read and write description. Here are some solutions I've found that still help me be able to write settings in my stories.

  • Historical Research is Hard
    Dec 23 2022

I'm writing a historical novel, and research is tough! Just when I think I've done enough, I'm told I can do more. Here are some solutions that I found really worked for me.

    1. Look for old footage on YouTube from that time period

    2. Find old pictures, if cameras were invented in the time period you're writing in

    3. Read books and watch movies that were made during that time, not just set during the time

    4. Look for old newspaper articles also set in that time. I love OldMagazineArticles.com. Check out your library for free databases, microfilms, and other resources

  • Building Character Voice
    Dec 2 2022

Hi everyone! I'm back for another episode of My Wholesome Writing Life with me, Van Hoang, and today is building character voice and the solutions I implement when I'm struggling!

    1. Write out a backstory scene with the character to spend more time with and get to know them--something that won't happen directly on the page of the novel

    2. Start a character voice journal --have your character journal from their point of view

    3. Have the character write letters to their bestie! You talk to your best friend differently than how you talk to anyone else, and this really brings out a side of your character you might not have noticed before

Bonus: Have them write letters to someone they don't like, then compare how they talk to their worst enemy and how they talk to someone they love.

    Hope you enjoy!
