I absolutely loved the conversation I had this week with Psychologist, and CEO and creator of the Tactical Longevity Training Program, Jenny Prohaska, PhD. Jenny has been helping individuals and agencies to do the hard work that it takes to change, shift, and improve culture. Asking tough questions, getting to the cause and not the symptom is what she does best. I thought the message she left us with was one of empowerment and hope and it starts with asking "why".

This week I had the pleasure of sitting down with Author and investigative journalist Rosemary Reynolds and brother of Murdered Police Chief Ralph Painter, Alan Painter. The book "Trapped in the System / Bringing the Killer of Rainier Police Chief Ralph Painter to Justice", uncovers a system that creates victims out of suspects and punishes families that are victims of murderous acts. This story would be less impactful if it was relegated to this one incident. The truth, the justice system we have in place is anything but just. Criminals are given compassion, empathy, and second chances after displaying none of those characteristics to their victims. I don't want to live in a world where the rights of the criminal outweigh the rights of the individuals and families they victimize. This one will make you question the system and how survivors of horrendous crimes are repeatedly victimized by a system that was intended to protect them.

This week I had the pleasure of sitting down with co-founders of "Thrive with Chaos", Libby Timmons and Felicia Dadamio. Thrive with Chaos offers a second chance for first responders that find themselves in the storm. Their organization offers services to help the first responder reclaim their lives. These services include Individual Therapy, Couples Therapy, Case Management, Peer-led relapse prevention education groups, Peer-led life skills groups, CBT and CPT programs, 3-5 day experiential workshops, Wellness Checks, CISM services, consulting, training, and our specialized FLIP (First Life Intervention Program).

On January 9th 2024, Brain Sizemore lost his son Lucas to suicide. Lucas had graduated the academy that May and was an officer with the City of Atlanta Police Department. Since his son's passing Brian has been on a mission to bring this tough conversation of suicide in law enforcement to the public. For every officer that dies at the hands of a suspect, 2-3 take their own lives.

Brain and I are joined on this episode by Jared Murphey, the Acting SAC of Homeland Security for Detroit Michigan. Lucas actually interned for Jared at HSI when he was younger, before he became an Atlanta officer.

We discuss the unanswered questions of this tragic event that brought these two men together. And just as importantly we highlight the work both are doing to bring awareness to this dynamic in the first responder community.

The " Bring Them Home" 1000 mile Charity Relay Run starts in Atlanta and finishes in Detroit.

This week I had the great privilege of sitting down with NCIS retired special agent Tom Coyle. Tom has been serving in various law enforcement capacities since the 80's at the local, state, and federal levels. As the LE Advisor for the Office of the Army Provost Marshal General, I delivered policy advice to the seniors leaders within the Army MP Corps and CID.

I helped to both to create and conduct formal training for Insider Threat Personnel, Program Managers and Senior Officials from over 55 government Departments and Agencies. This week I had the pleasure of sitting down with Annemarie Lafferty, a woman who has dedicated the majority of her life helping first responders heal from past traumas and chronic injuries. Traditional modalities treat symptoms, Annmarie addresses the root cause thus removing the source of the pain both physically and emotionally. I know that, I don't know, and Annmarie was excellent at explaining concepts and theories in an easy to understand way.
