Dr. Dagda shares how his team's research is on the front lines of the fight to cure Alzheimer's and Parkinson's. In the United States, approximately 6.7 million people live with Alzheimer's disease and over 1 million people have been diagnosed with Parkinson's. According to research, there is some crossover between certain proteins in models and cell cultures for both diseases.

Nevada is the driest, most arid state in the U.S. On this episode of Latino Insights, Dr. Andrade-Rodríguez explains how he and his team, in partnership with colleagues in other states, are conducting research that seeks to improve the use of water that is allocated for agriculture in Nevada and the world.

Dr. Michael Aguirre is an Assistant Professor within the Department of History, here at the University of Nevada, Reno. He is a historian of the United States, Mexican-American and Latina/o/x history, and the U.S.-México Borderlands. Dr. Aguirre shares an abbreviated history of the U.S./México Borderlands and several of the U.S. Government policies that have impacted immigrants, primarily from Central America, México and South America. He also reflects on his experiences living and traveling between the U.S./México Border.

Dr. Huslage sheds light on her recent study that explores mental health issues concerns among the immigrant community. On today's episode we discuss some important findings from a recent publication concerning GEAR UP students. Dr. Jafeth Sanchez, Director of the Latino Research Center, recently published a new article titled: Gleaning into the Aspirational-Pursuit Gap of GEAR UP Students. This research consists of an exploratory analysis of program evaluation outcomes. We discuss some findings in this episode, including the predominant representation of Hispanic/Latinx backgrounds among GEAR UP students. Additionally, we explore some of the personal experiences endured by Dr. Jafeth Sanchez in her own path to higher education.
