In this engaging oral history interview, join us as we hear from Thelma Battle, a prominent figure in Middle Tennessee's genealogy scene, recorded back in Spring 2023. Thelma shared invaluable insights on preserving her legacy while honoring marginalized communities, a topic particularly relevant to my former #THEE Tennessee State University HBCU students. Get ready not only to delve into Thelma's wisdom but also think about how to explore your own family's or community's oral histories, discuss historic preservation goals, and delve into the vital role of active social justice in Public History practices. Tune in for a rich and enlightening conversation!

Tonight would have been my Ruby Grandma's 91st birthday (June 15, 1931). She passed away in 2020, so in honor of her & the oral histories & knowledge I gained from her I'll be discussing some of her oral stories (both fond and negative/tragic). Excited to also hear about & learn from your families' &/or communities' oral histories, historic preservation goals, and the ever needed hands-on active social justice necessary in Public History practices.
