Get Busy Living Or Get Busy Dying
Several of my friends have recently lost loved ones at a young age. Their passing has been a stark reminder that life is fleeting, precious, and unpredictable. It’s easy to get caught up in the busyness of life, in our daily routines, responsibilities, and stressors—but how often do we stop and ask ourselves, Am I truly living my life to the fullest?
Today, I want to discuss what it means to live a whole life, embrace each day with purpose, and ensure that when our time comes, we have no regrets about how we’ve spent our days. So, grab a cup of coffee, settle in, and dive into a conversation I hope will inspire you to live boldly, love more deeply, and embrace life with open arms.
Facing the Reality of Time One of my all-time favorite movies is The Shawshank Redemption. There is a scene towards the end of the movie where Red, one of the main characters, is thinking about breaking his parole. And he says, “Either I am going to get busy living or die.” Red misses his friend, leaves his mundane life, and crosses the border south to join his buddy Andy on the beach of Zihuatanejo, Mexico. It’s a beautiful reunion. If you haven’t watched this movie, it is a good one!
None of us know how much time we have. Some people didn’t get to wake up today. We never know when our names will not be on the wake-up list. That’s a sobering thought, but it’s also a powerful motivator. The idea isn’t to dwell in fear but to use this awareness as fuel to live more intentionally. If you GOT to wake up today, then there is something YOU are meant to do and commissioned explicitly for you to do.
Ask yourself: If I had only one year left, how would I spend it? What would I stop putting off? Who would I call today to tell them I love them? Where would I spend my time?
We often act like we have all the time in the world, but time is the one thing we can never get back. So, if there’s something on your heart that you’ve been meaning to do—whether it’s writing that book, starting that business, or taking that dream trip—don’t wait.
Take a listen and see how you can make a change today to GET BUSY LIVING!
