Publisher's Summary

Narrated by acclaimed British actor Edward Petherbridge. On the eve of war, Sherlock Holmes is asked by the Prime Minister of England to recover a new British superweapon that has fallen into the wrong hands. But Lucy James, an actress and Holmes's recently discovered grown daughter, has inherited the family sleuthing skills and strong-willed nature. Despite her father's objections, she insists on helping him, although several horrific murders have been linked to the weapon's disappearance. With Dr. Watson, Holmes and Lucy follow the trail to Germany, uncovering a sinister plot that puts them directly in the line of fire. Featuring appearances from real-life notables Nikola Tesla, King Edward VII, and Kaiser Wilhelm II, this electrifying new mystery puts the greatest deductive mind of his era into a race to save the Empire.

Kaiser Wilhelm, The rotund Prince of England and Sherlock, his daughter, and Watson and

Tesla, started it. The Kaiser wants it, and so does England. What a mess of murder and mayham over a laser beam! Can it win a war?

Not like other 'Sherlock Holmes' substitutes.

I love the original Sherlock Holmes stories by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. I also enjoyed many stories by more modern day authors who write Sherlock Holmes mysteries. This author doesn't seem to attain the level of engagement with the Sherlock and Watson characters. I had a hard time finishing this book.

What a letdown after Book 1!

I couldn’t finish it. Excruciatingly dull. Lifeless characters going through the motions. Unbelievable dialogue. Tremendously disappointing.

Great Story.

These are great books. The story is well written, the characters are true to the original while being engaging and personable.

This narrator has weird phrasing. It isn't always noticeable but, every now and then, I have to stop and go back to understand something he said. It is like he listens to a lot of Christopher Walken and William Shatner and uses their phrasing every fifth sentence.

The daughter of Sherlock Holmes.

I really like Sherlock Holmes stories and I was excited enough about this series introducing a daughter that I gave it a couple books to see if I could get into it.

Lucy James' back story is related in the book The Last Moriarty, so I won't summarize it here. She is an interesting character, showing herself to be every bit as smart as her famous father, while still being sensitive towards others.

I really enjoyed seeing Holmes learning how to be a father to a full grown daughter it was both sweet and awkward.

Watson was well done, a good mix of reliable, competent, and oblivious. He is of course our narrator, so it's really hard to not like him.

The story is where the stars come off. I personally dislike it when Holmes stories feature historical figures. This one heavily used Nikolai Tesla and Albert prince of Wales. The story was less mystery and more political intrigue. So there was a lot of double crossing, and less clue gathering.

The narrator Edward Peter ridge has a great voice. He not only does different voices for each character, he also has a great range with accents. I enjoyed listening to him.

Sherlock Holmes is alive and well.

What a marvelous continuation of the Sherlock Holmes stories. It made my sequestration so much more enjoyable. I heartily recommend the audible recording. Edward Petherbridge does an
admirable job as the reader. He has a voice that is exquisitely suited for the job. Charles Veley’s story carries on the Holmesian tradition of intricate plotting, intriguing twist and turns, and, of course, masterful detective work. That’s entertainment!
