Publisher's Summary
Ralph finds that he is alone as Noggs does not return to work. Mr Cheeryble comes to visit and tells Ralph that soon he should come and see them as they have matters to discuss. Ralph discovers his associates have moved away from him and reluctantly goes to see the Cheerybles. They inform him what they know of his affairs. He is later confronted by Brooker who reveals his shadowy past and Ralph flees. The Nicklebys mourn Smike.
Nicholas and Kate also talk about their love for Madeline and Frank, but both agree it is best if they remain single. Ralph reflects on his life and past and takes drastic measures. The Cheerybles are invited to dinner, and three marriages are announced. Nicholas later decides to travel to Yorkshire, where he meets the Browdies and discovers what has happened to Dotheboys Hall. Nicholas and Kate’s fortunes change for the better.

Larger Than Life Characters
The narrator does an excellent job in portraying Dicken's larger than life characters. Loved Mrs.Nickleby.

Classic Dickens
A master of the English language. Beautifully read by Kobna Holbrook-Smith. Close your eyes and imagine you are with young Nicholas.

Well-read novel full of eccentrics
I had never read Nicholas Nickleby and found it just as rambling, vividly written and full of characters including two major villains, as many of Dickens' other novels. It has its dull moments, but lots of highlights too. The reading by Kobna Holdbrook-Smith was wonderful - he gets the characters so well, and held the narrative tension superbly.
