In Sianfu lebte ein alter Buddhistenmönch, der liebte es, durch einsame Gegenden zu wandeln. Auf seinen Wanderungen kam er an den Kuku-Nor. Da sah er einen dürren Baum, der war tausend Fuß hoch und viele Klafter dick. Innen war er hohl, so dass man von oben das Licht des Himmels hineinscheinen sah.
