Der Buddhismus entstand im südlichen Indien auf der Insel Ceylon. Dort lebte der Sohn eines brahmanischen Königs. Er hatte in seiner Jugend die Heimat verlassen und abgesagt allem Wünschen und Fühlen. Mit großer Selbstverleugnung kasteite er sich, um alle lebenden Wesen zu retten. Mit der Zeit erreichte er geheimen Sinn und wurde Buddha genannt.
