Publisher's Summary

A SERIAL KILLER ON A POISONOUS MISSION PUSHES NIKKI AND HER TEAM TO BREAKING POINT

Revellers are flocking into Greenborough for the yearly Dark Greenborough Festival, a three-day event celebrating local folklore, superstition, and the darker side of life.

What the public doesn't know is that there has been a warning sent to the police, saying that Greenborough will be a very dangerous place this year. The anonymous letter ends with the Latin phrase, Mors certa, hora incerta: Death is certain, the hour uncertain.

DI Nikki Galena and her team soon discover this is no hoax, as people start dying from what appears to be alcoholic poisoning. Things rapidly escalate, and as the deaths get more horrific, Nikki realizes they have a serial killer in their midst.

Enjoyed the narrator and the mystery started well. But it was that tall building: walk down or fall down -- early on hint that
started my collecting "indicators that this would end as an average British Detective Book. I enjoyed the 3 day festival celerating several hundred years of ghosts, ghouls and fresh deaths. I liked he characters but ....

Darkness on the fens

Joy Ellis came up with another intriguing enjoyable storyline . Narrator's interpretation of local dialect somewhat lacking tho!

poor narration, buy the paperback instead.

I like Joy Ellis' work but the narration on this is very poor. makes the story difficult to follow and the characters difficult to differentiate between. I dont recomend it.

Poor narrator

Disapppointing - not the usual Joy Ellis standard. And the poor narrator made it much worse.

Love this series

I’ve loved all of this series of books. It’s the characters and how the story unfolds and keeps you guessing. Excellent read.

excellent storyline

I love this series, so maybe I am biased, but this entry is superb, all of the books are intricate but this one is very cleverly done, I do have a particular fondness for all things historical myself so again, maybe I am biased but I certainly enjoyed the story.

I did find the ending annoying though, I was always a little annoyed by Joseph's 'by the book' attitude but he seems to have a bit of a breakdown in this story and the roles are reversed, but I was still annoyed, both Joseph and Nikki had their own reasons for feeling the way they did toward particular killers and in my opinion neither had the right to sway the others opinion one way or the other, the justice system is very flawed in any country, and the whole 'leave it to the system' part of any story just annoys me but never so much as in this particular story which is why I gave it five stars for being outstanding in this area.

Henrietta Meire is a good narrator, I very much enjoy listening to her but she never changes, most of her characters sound the same, male or female, it is very hard to tell the difference but she gets four stars because she's great regardless, very emotive and enjoyable to listen to.
