Oh dear I’m never listening to Henrietta Meier again

Goodness this was awful not sure why I continued with this. The narrator is dreadful, the story so silly and I will never listen to the Fens stories again.
Do yourself a favour and do the same. Bad bad bad

Brilliant!!!

Don't know where to start! Totally different murder storyline, but exceptional as ever...so great to have Nikki and Joseph back and all the old crew 😊 the wealth of knowledge and the research Joy Ellis does is mindblowing...how does she even think of these scenarios? I'm very excited for the next book which I know will come...don't leave us hanging for too long please! 😁☺🙂

Tedious

I’m a huge fan of Joy Ellis’ books; and started this one with high expectations. They were soon dashed. Joy’s books shine brightest when she develops the characters; their interactions & humour. This gives context to the serious job of detecting crime and death. This book has only brief mentions of or appearances by Rory, Eve, her fellow amateur sleuths, Tamsin. These characters flesh out our beloved Nikki and Joseph. Please get back to normal policing, evil villains and solving murders. Enough with mysterious government men and state secrets. By the time the twist at the end of the story happened; I didn’t really care. I look forward to Joy’s next book, hopefully with a return to earlier formats.

A psychological puzzle for detectives ,

A puzzle for detectives ,that sends clever men and women ,searching the fens for a killer .The mind is a jumble of ideas ,what is real ?and what is not? Who to believe? What drives a quiet gentle young man to kill ?Are mysterious tree and nature spirits crying for revenge ? ……….this is a fantastic story that keeps the reader guessing rite to the end.

nah...didn't enjoy

I have read all f her books and loved them.
I really did not like this book at all.
It was way to long . I didn't like the plot at all. I thought it would never end & the narration was grinding on my last nerve.
It has really put me off sticking with these characters

Fairly ok

Not as good as earlier stories. Do not really like the narrator. I have listened to all of this series and this is the
only one I am not happy with.

Truly awful

I’ve read all the books in this series and enjoyed most of them. But the quality has deteriorated over time. This one was a ridiculous, meandering mess. The police are embarrassingly bad. It seems that every book gets more like a silly soap opera. The conversations at the station sound like something overheard at the Ladies’ Knitting Society. Yuck.

Please write faster 😘

I am so invested in this series (actually in anything written by Joy Ellis!) & wish there were more books ready to read. But I am willing to wait for the next one and work on my patience - the books are well worth the wait!!

Fear on the Fens: a Fatuous Fractured Fairytale

I do not know where to start and I am sorry I finished the book. The story was way over the top and the cops are portrayed as fools. Even if you suspend your disbelief the plot does not work. Yes crazy people do crazy things, but this book had too many crazies and too many crazy coincidences.

Very good book in a great series

The thirteenth book in the Nikki Galena series is an excellent addition to Joy Ellis’ body of work.

This could have been a 5-star book but I had a hard time keeping track of all the characters. The story was interesting if not a bit different. Brothers, a scientist father, the intelligence service, and some bizarre murders give Nikki and her team a case they won’t soon forget. I never saw the ending coming.

Excellent narration again by Henrietta Meire.

The next book should be fantastic and I look forward to it.

Wonderful Procedural

I’ve loved all of the books/audiobooks in this series. They are interesting, well-written, and the characters are wonderful. The narrator does a great job as well. Looking forward to the next book in the series.

Truthfully one of the oddest books ever ….

Clunky dialogue, extremely clunky dialogue, and a bizarre story line, combining espionage with the paranormal with the kitchen sink thrown in for good measure. My favourite passages are the bedtime conversations of the two characters who are supposed to be having a relationship of some kind … astoundingly wooden and utterly sexless. All In all it’s a triumph of something or other.

Enjoyable

I always look forward to listening to and reading Joy Ellis, the characters are as familiar as old friends. However I did not enjoy the narration on this occasion, I can’t pin point why but possibly the pitch, pace and intonation made the listen uncomfortable

Narration is poor, story good

Enjoyed the story but sadly the narration didn’t suit my taste. Worth pursuing to the end for the twists.
